I have vague but strong recollections of a match in the 70s against Leicester City at Deepdale with the brilliant Peter Shilton in goal. We were on the Kop end behind the goal, i can remember Shilton running out from goal, the ball gets deflected, ballooning high over his head ending up with six foot plus Shilts chasing back against five foot nothing Archie Gemmill, with Archie just getting there first to tap the ball in, with Shilton lying crumpled against the post.. It was one of those time stood still moments the ball seemed airborn for ever !!!

Weve actually played better than I expected when I saw the team today. Forest are so low on confidence that they are there for the taking. Poor match but conditions aren’t helping. Maguire doing well in his lone role but not a goal threat. Will A N bring on Riis or Stockley to support him, probably not. Only if we go a goal down will he send for the cavalry.

So far this has been rather like Tuesday with our opponents playing a passing and running game and us generally just hoofing it upfield - the difference being we haven't got that break to give us a goal. Maguire has hassled and harried and on the few occasions when he has received a ball to his feet has looked to make use of it but otherwise there has been nothing of note in our approach play. We need to get Riis on with Maguire maybe dropping deeper. Bayliss has looked fine.
I’m not normally a fan but Hughes was outstanding that half. As much as I like Earl, decision justified for me. Baylis looks very nervous, I’d like to see him push on a little and maybe commit others on this pitch - that may happen if Johnson has to go off, which looked likely. I suspect they might well have been trying to save a substitution ‘slot’ because he looked to be really struggling.

PNE Fans After Match Inquest......,
We showed little or no attacking adventure in the 1st half against a team with an awful away record.
Second half yes we have improved and had three or four good chances and not able to take any.
We give away a soft penalty and go behind and then make changes.
We showed hardly any attacking intention in the 1st half and just looked to get to half time at 0-0.
Playing at home with this sort of game plan you will get games when teams nick that goal and then take all the pressure you can put them under.
Another home game lost against a poor team and down to our game plan and tactics in the first half,when we were content with 0-0.

Not sure it was a case of deserving to win as it was Forest deserving to lose, there is no chemistry in that team at all, given all their quality. Just feels like they need a complete clear out from top to bottom.
It was the 99th minute and we had a corner. Why not send Rudd up or use the last two subs to create a height advantage knowing that that was going to be the final action?
Today Forest came with experience and deserved to win. Finishing a major concern for us but Samba made two great saves.

I’ve no complaints about the penalty award or the spot kick. We had enough chances to win or at least draw. Apart from the penalty incident back 4 played well. Bayliss passed forwards and accurately and did ok for me. DJ caused them all sorts of problems and was back to his best, whilst Maguire s holdup play was good but he was never a goal threat. Substitutions were too late and Stockley showed what a handful he can be whilst the match seemed to pass Riis by. Annoyingly, we would have been only 2 points off the playoff
I think he's still on the forrest pay roll after that commentary as was the referee for that matter. Should have had a couple sent off plus the pen debacle. Think he'd forgot which pocket his cards where in.

Why did we only attempt to create scoring opportunities in the 2nd half,like I said with this sort of game plan, teams can then nick a goal and then soak up whatever pressure you throw at them?
Why play for the 1st 45 minutes with so little attacking threat and any real attempts at goal?
If we had showed some attacking intent 1st half and had scored, then Forest would have needed to take more risks going forward in an attempt to get back into the game, leaving them more vulnerable and allowing us greater opportunity going forward.
Why only attempt to create chances and score in the second half making you vulnerable to conceding a sucker goal and then chasing the game?
Yes annoying how we lost and yes a win would have put us into a good position in the table. That is even more why the lack of attacking intent 1st half against a Forest side with an abysmal away record who had only scored 5 away goals before today was disappointing to say the very least.
A very average team v a pretty crap team today. Bad luck dictated the crap team got the three points. We looked like a depleted team and I always thought today was a game too far. We shouldn't have lost though and, for me, it was Fisher's fault. His silly diving finally caught up with him in embarrassing fashion. But, over a season he'll win us more points than he loses so you have to take the rough with the smooth. At least he has footballing ability unlike the carthorse who turned out at left back for us today.

To me, he just says what he sees and I didn’t really disagree with anything, apart from perhaps his thoughts on Baylis. I didn’t think he favoured Forest at all and said on numerous occasions that North End deserved something from the game.
It seems to me, on this forum, unless a TV presenter, Radio broadcaster, commentator or co commentator isn’t constantly praising all things PNE, they are branded as anti- PNE.
McKenna said something like 5 mins for Forest to hang on and get the 3 points rather than saying 5 mins for North End to get an equalizer. Came across as having allegiance to Forest - maybe I read too much into it.
