I just wanted to give Sels a pat on the back for his recent displays.

That's fair, he's been better than last season. I just think he's benefitting from how good our centre backs and Aina have been.

RE: Our Goalkeepers - Fumanchew - 22-12-2024

I did wonder whether there’s something to be said about the entire defence not being extra nervous that the keeper will have a howler like they probably did every time they played with turner. Bet that took a while once sels came in to shake off

RE: Our Goalkeepers - Salvatore Matrecano - 27-12-2024

2 superb saves yesterday, the first one was right below me and was fantastic, the shot was 100% going to loop into the top corner, the second half one I didn’t see unti lI watched it back but again Sels did very well to close the angle from short distance.
Clean sheet against the league’s top scorers and you can see his confidence growing every match.

The second save was similar - though perhaps not quite as good - as Samba's save from Ndiaye in the playoff semi-final. All he could do was rush out and make himself as big as possible and he did just that.

The second one was such a good save, you're right he was so quick to narrow the gap, read it really well.

RE: Our Goalkeepers - zicorice - 27-12-2024

Sels is the steady GK we needed after Turner/Vlach debacles. Has an excellent all round game except on crosses. That's more or less been negated by form of Murillo and Milenkovic. Sels even came and punched a couple of crosses 3 or 4 yards out yesterday
Anything 6 yards or more and he knows the defence deals with it. He's ideal for a team in Champions league....?

RE: Our Goalkeepers - Salvatore Matrecano - 17-01-2025

Belgium have just sacked their manager. Sels then posted Happy Friday! on his insta. Don’t think he will be missed.
Chance for him to regain his place, only issue is Courtois who went on self imposed strike as long as Tedesco was in charge will be back in the frame too.

Courtois the best Belgian keeper by a distance tbf, so as you say, down to him and do his team mates want him back?

Sels is in a purple patch of form and long may it continue. He isn't as good as some make out, but equally he is alot better than we've had in a while, but as mentioned above, the fact he hardly makes any errors must inspire confidence in those in front of him.  The defenders also know they need to attack every cross more than two yards out as he will stay on his line, but with Milenkovic that works for us superbly.

I really like what Sels is doing for us and a keeper who dominates his box would not necessarily strengthen us in terms of everything else he seems to be doing so brilliantly. The stats don't lie,  our back 5 (and 6) is working for us.

RE: Our Goalkeepers - Salvatore Matrecano - 12-02-2025

Well then, what do we think?
Only Miguels second start but he has looked dodgy in both. Seemed to be a total lack of confidence last night. The way he got so easily wound up by a guy half his size blocking him at a corner was pretty poor.
Don’t want to totally write the bloke off but he is not ready or reliable as a back up were something to happen to Sels.
Reminds me of Muric in some ways? Give him a loan next season and see if he can develop.

Last night was probably not a night to judge him by but unfortunately for him, he wasn't convincing in the bit of action he did get. He's cost us two goals now in the two games he's started. That's not good. He's an absolute giant but I don't see him coming out for crosses and corners in a dominant way as perhaps he should be.

Still early days for him so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but as it stands this morning, it looks like goalkeeper is another position where we're down to one top quality credible option.

RE: Our Goalkeepers - Mist From The Trent - 12-02-2025

3rd start isn't it? Thought he had a decent game against Newcastle, their goal was a lot more down to the defence wandering off and leaving him exposed, in my opinion. Made a couple of decent saves against Luton, dodnt do anything wrong really, although his kicking was suspect. Obviously at fault for the first goal today, very poor.

RE: Our Goalkeepers - Trailer Park Tom - 12-02-2025

He needs to be playing every game in the U23s.
