It relies on our players doing something individually well to be creative and make a chance. Palace set traps to counter this and should have won but for poor finishing. It’s much like Man Utd - they just have better players but have similar problems. Chelsea too. When you look at Villa - they are so well drilled and make squares all over the pitch so players have 3 options. Other teams bring in fullbacks to hold midfield to create overloads. We have none of that. Of course it comes with time but we are so predictable and easy to defend against.  Unis approach started well as we were probably an unknown quantity on our first few matches under him. Will it be enough? It’s the safety net of an easy structure that can be compact and grind out results. I fear it relies on players who are not fit - Taveres for example got us up the pitch and created space for CHO. Awonyi is a miss as he is a danger in behind.
I’d like him to play differently - a box midfield with 2 number 10s could be an option if we can get full backs bombing on and cdm to cover them. 4222. The two number 6 have to be mobile and disciplined though.
I just don’t think he has the bollocks to try anything different.

Not trying to catch you out but who from those in the squad including injured would you use for 4222 for it work like you say?
I think we were making progress again after having to switch it up with afcon players out then Taraves, awoniyi/wood both being injured when the other wasn’t etc

RE: Nuno Espirito Santo - ozzyten10 - 01-04-2024

I’d play Dominguez and Yates or danillo as the 6s Sangare may suit him too. wood and Elanga in front of MGW and Reyna. Could even play CHO as an attacking left back - Origi and Elanga could also play split striker roles. If wood was to get injured it would be a decent option. Origi needs to contribute though and he hasn’t yet!

RE: Nuno Espirito Santo - ozzyten10 - 01-04-2024

I also think originally it is what the squad was designed for a box midfield. Cooper abandoned it too soon in my opinion.

Because he was under pressure to compromise his principles and get results, same as last season. He openly stated this.

RE: Nuno Espirito Santo - Mcforest - 02-04-2024

Nothing against Nuno but i do expect him to be sacked regardless of what division we are in come the end of the season. I said it at the time, and i still see it now, that he was a sideways step from cooper (who had to go). I was hopeful at the start because we seemed to be a little bit fast in the attack, however that then dropped off and we were just as before. But like with cooper i want him to succeed as i want the club to succeed but we are just doing the same things we have done under cooper and somehow expect a different outcome. I just don't see a manager/coach in him that given a pre-season would change the way we play or effect us enough to improve the team.

RE: Nuno Espirito Santo - Forest1970 - 02-04-2024

I personally don't want Nuno gone as the team he has to play with isn't his and lets face it no one knows what our best team is because our supposedly best players are most the time injured. If he does get sacked and that's a big IF who would people want to take over and who would want to come. I know it is the mighty Forest and the world famous City ground but I really can't see anyone with any stature coming to us.

The issue with Cooper wasn't the football though (apart from that Fulham game). It was that he'd fallen out with the owners, you can apportion blame how you want on that one but it had made his position a bit untenable. The idea of Nuno was that his was a continuity figure but would be better at managing the relationship with the ownership due to his relationship with Mendes. I still think this aspect hopefully applies, he just needs to mirror the football we played at the end of last season (and start of this year up until the last 10 mins of Luton game)

And about 50% of the players.

You're saying he'd fallen out with around 12-13 players? I'm sorry I don't believe that.

The players that he'd allegedly fallen out with haven't contributed post Cooper either.

Yes that is exactly what I am saying.

I just don't believe that many players would literally have fallen out with him. Everything that has previously been said on the man was of someone that was both well liked and well respected.

Now maybe I could believe there was a group of players that were unhappy and would prefer him to leave because they weren't playing. However, aside from Worrall/Montiel I can't see any evidence to suggest there was a large group of players that had completely fallen out with him.

There were a number of players where the relationship was  of good at the end.
Wood, Neco, Yates just to name a few
