Spot on that's it in a nutshell.

Unfortunately Hughton isn’t the right manager for plan B IMO.

I think we need to make the change now before we waste another 5 games.

If we knew that we really should have pulled the trigger on CH 3 months ago. Someone is to blame for delaying that decision.

Or clever. Brand new CEO comes into a club who already have a well respected manager amongst the majority of the fan base, his first action is to sack that manager, he gets instant backlash because that manager is so well respected, even more so if the season then starts badly under a new guy.

Instead the new CEO waits 4/5 games, if the well respected manager gets off to a good start then fair enough, he can stay the extra season and see out his contract, it's a season of transition anyway... but if he starts the season really badly (coming into it off the back of poor form at the end of last season) then gets sacked, the CEO might find he has the majority of supporters on his side just by waiting those 4/5 games.
Great post mate, I see it that way too and I've never wanted Hughton in charge. He was damned if he did and now damned because he didnt.

this theory is dead, Hughton needed to go before the CEO arrived, that's my understanding anyway, if the ceo is going to be a faffer abouter or into slippery trickery spin, he's a waste of time, we need honorable straight talking and a bit of transparency at some stage.  Anyway we are now in really bad timing territory, he'd have to be really good to turn this situation into something good, it's almost like the hopes of the season gone in 60 seconds at the moment

As Nick Randall said in his recent BBC interview, we are onto plan B as plan A didn’t work.

I guess plan A was to get a proven manager (Karanka) let him spend a lot of ££ and get would get us up in 2 yrs.

Buying Carv for 13m was a grave error and one could argue wreckless at best, and that amortised cost is still heavily trying us down. Also buying players who have got promoted and hoping they can replicate that, whilst giving them big contracts was never sustainable.

So we are now in a position where we are re-setting.

Get rid of the belly fat in the squad, reduce the age, increase the hunger, and have a reduced wage bill.

This was never going to be seamless, and will prob be another 12 months with Grabban, Taylor, Arter, Jenko and Bong off the wage bill.

I believe that long run we will benefit, but we are going to suffer this year.

Totally agree with all this.

I've also no issue with Dane or the club not dismissing Hughton yet. It was worth trying to see if they fit together.

And Dane's signed 3 players so far, 1 of whom is already a frontrunner for POTS and looks a class above the other players. Tutu looked good but got injured so jury's out. And Horvath is very highly spoken of by US fans, some actually amazed he's gone to a Champ club and not one in a higher league. With Samba continuing to make blunders, I actually think that Dane's been very clever there addressing an issue which most wouldn't say we had, but which in recent games we clearly have. So Dane certainly doesn't get much criticism for the transfer business done so far from me.

It's early days, but I think there's potential for a bright future there if we start making the right decisions.

Does anybody else miss the ‘All I can do is advise and recommend’ post match interviews?

Is 3 games with half a squad enough time to see whether they could fit together?

No I don't think it is Wassy, but I think pre-season and the actual working relationship between Dane & Hoots is more an indicator of whether it'll work or not.

Only the chaps involved themselves can really say there.

Fair point, I guess we'll find out if he survives into September and beyond

What a hideous strategy.

There is plenty of upside for Murphy there, but not very much for the Club.

We know from Widdow that bids have gone in for players, and he has an impeccable record for transfer gossip at the Club.

So we have a list of targets but the main man cannot get any of the deals over the line; he probably thinks he is being clever by offering derisory amounts to desperate Clubs in need of the money.

Well guess what, we are the desperate ones now; if Murphy goes back in for any of the players we have had bids rejected for, it will smack of desperation and the price will go up again.

If things drag on another week we will have players rejecting us because the do not fancy a relegation fight.

I suppose you cannot really blame the players for showing a lack of desire when the CEO does the very same.

Off the field, i'm content with what we've done. I hope to see 2/3 more, but I think there's promise in what we're looking to do.

I don't want Hughton to be picking players he wants, if you look into Murphy, what his principles are and what he wants, we shouldn't be wanting Hughton to pick the players.

We want to end the nonsense that has been the previous 5/6 transfer windows, build for today and tomorrow. Have continuity in approach to who we sign and the way we want to play.

Hughton is definitely the loser in that, in that it's not being built to his strengths, but I totally support that approach. Else we end up with a new man whoever who wants his own men again and we keep making the same mistakes.

Hughton's job now is to make this team greater than the sum of it's parts, be adaptable to what he has and get the most out of them. He's failing to do that, that bit is on him.

I would have hoped we'd have got the new #3 and #6 by now, because we desperately need them. But I prefer us to be patient than go out and sign more Bong, Arter, Jenkinson types who saddle us with big contracts for numerous years and contribute nothing.

I truly think we'd backing the right horse in Murphy. But he can't change years worth of poor business in a couple of months.

Is this a real question?? Blaming the new guy who’s been here 2 weeks. What about the other 22 years?

So basically you're saying, you've got a shit team but you've got to somehow make them competitive and if not you get sacked. Seems fair

No, the team is better than he's got it performing.  I'm saying he's doing a poor job.
