i just want the guy to show some promise, do some good management type stuff, try differant strategies and changes as opposed the 1 formation for every game.
Look, imagine we had got relegated, we would be expected to be the big boys of L1, play high up the pitch, attack, attack, attack, definately against weaker sides or out of form sides, put someone up as captain who leads by example, inspires, communicates constantly, ie not Grabban, i am a fan of Grabban, part of this seasons failings is the predictable set up, lack of support for strikers and being predictable, but Grabban is the best of what we have maybe still 1 of the best in the league but doesn't mean he has to start every game, he's getting on a bit and as we all know, except the manager he is not a captain, he's a sultry type who spends alot of time staring at his laces but i like sultry moody strikers personally
So we are in the Champ, which seem to mean we have to treat every game the same, every opponent as really tough, take every precaution, don't try anything new and don't change game plan or personnell effectively, we set up for difficult grind fests and that is what we get, week in week out, Hughton just hasn't done enough of the managing stuff for me and sum him up at present as predictable, reactive, defensive and really only uses subs to run down the clock
Yes it is harsh but there has to be reasons we are virtually the lowest scoring team of all time, some of the reasons are listed above, oh yes the old 'the players ain't good enough' but that is the job, he knew exactly what he was taking on and in that interview he didn't get the job by saying 'ok Makkers it's going to be dour and 17th is that ok cos i've inherited a shed load of sh1te'

Garner - been fantastic, would love to see him back
Krovi - been good, lacked goals but still done more than enough that I'd welcome him back

Good to say they were all signed on loan for £0 transfer fee and most in a tricky Jan window, I'm happy to see how Hughton can shape the squad before judging him. When you compare that to the toss loans such as Mir, Diakhaby etc. it's absolute night and day. Give Hughton the 20m which Modesto & Mendez spent on Carvalho, Soudani, Da Costa & Jenks and we'd have a FAR better squad here.
This season reminds me of Davies' the season he kept us up. Given a bit of time & backing and we had our best set of back to back seasons in 20 years. Hopefully Hoots can do the same.
Agree with this Alf. I've said it a few times now but if we can't get anywhere in this league with Chris Hughton at the helm, then we are in trouble.
Outside of the shambolic 1st couple of months, we have looked very strong at the back.
Missed chances though has cost us numerous points and I mean real sitters or "should at least hit the target" type chances this season, like never before. Yes there were spells in the season where we created very little, but some games, (like todays) we should have been out of site before dropping points. Not just a few games either, loads of them!
Hard to pin that on the boss.
I find plenty of solace in both posts.
It's been a season of 'missed chances' on and off the field. Forest's shambolic start to pre-season, recruitment and the start of the season set the tone.
We have dropped loads of points. When you are on top. You have to score more than one goal as both Rotherham and Forest learned to their cost yesterday. One is not enough. It puts pressure on a back line only boyed by Worrall. Without him, our back line would be in deep trouble. The individual errors (from the fullback yesterday and SoH(?) getting out jumped for the 2nd goal despite the officiating shows how football can be.)
It's goals. Had they been taken, we'd been in a far higher position.
But as others have obviously pointed out. Forest lost yesterday. And ultimately that's what counts.
The story behind find this 'underachievement' (it can't be recruitment's fault, can it?) must be addressed this Summer.
The one image I did have re: this season, many times was Alf's point about Davies starting season where he brought in those emergency loans after it was clear some players weren't playing for the badge. (Billy's accusation post match.). He saved Forest from the drop that season and sighted it as one of his major achievements. The parallel to this season shouldn't be overlooked.
And Alf's point about Hughton. If he has the budget for this Summer that some incumbents have had from the previous years that was pished away on pretenders...

relegation would of helped Chris Hughton to get wins and goals, his performance last season was woeful and he knows it and you know it but for some reason you can't discuss it. His current template will only bring mediocrity. He sets up for a difficult game, tells everyone it's going to be difficult, makes life difficult and guess what it's been difficult, the guy is a reactionary he used to write for the Socialist Workers Revolutionary Party, he wants every team to finish on the same points and same goals and all shake hands, anything else would invoke unfairness and a class war

Who recruited the 'under achieving' players from last Summer's 'quality' window?

That was us at the beginning of the season.
Number 1 got fixed very very well by CH, despite Figs best efforts at times.
Number 2: our goals output to good chances created has been horrendous, despite having access to 3 proven Championship goal scorers. It has been Garry Birtles at ManUtd esque for our strikers this season.
Getting a 20 goals a season striker is every clubs intention, we have had 2 this season and 1 who scored 11 in 22 games last season.
Our finishing could easily have got us relegated-just ask Rotherham- but for our mean defence.
"Build from the back" now who said that?

I was thinking about that recipe for destruction at the start of the season. It had that Calderwood Championship vibe. Can't score. Can't defend.

The chances are there. But it's about the onion bag. A 'teaser' for recruitment this Summer.
Your point about 'needs must' tightening up at the back is on point. Harder to coach goals, though. The silver lining is if Forest get some good goal scorers in and add it to our 'mean' defence, it's game on for a top 6 push. Which will get Forest back on track.
