I don’t think we’ll allow it. Murphy would have been scouring leagues for managers for Barnsley to bring in Ismael, then he would have known some time through last season that Ismael was going to get poached, so would hopefully have kept his eyes on the market - either for Barnsley or if he knew he himself was moving on, for his new club. (I wonder when Forest first made contact?).

It’s contingency planning that any place worth its salt does, and Murphy is meant to be worth his salt, so hopefully we would not going into a manger search from a standing start. Hughtons contract is up next summer anyway, so sooner or later they will be making a move. If the results are bad, I expect it to be sooner.

Despite my defensive comments I am not particularly pro Hughton and agree with you in many ways. My issue is if we were going to change we should have done it at the end of the season just gone.
What I really really dont want is yet another mid season sacking, yet another manager who has to work with the last ones player choices, yet another academy player sold to pay for the choices of the new guy.

RE: Coventry City - Nottingham Forest - zicorice - 08-08-2021

Well that was a sh1tter of an ending.

Positives
The 1st half.
We actually created a few real chances.
A CF scored a CF goal.
Colback looked the player we all knew he was.
Soh-excellent 44 minutes.
All the young lads.
The away support-a proper club!

Negatives
The 2nd half
The result
The treatment Mighten and Johnson received suggests other teams can see where the danger will come from.

Overall I thought a point apiece would be a fair result, but as soon as the 6 minute board went up, you kind of knew we would struggle to hold out. Coventry are better than many think and I would sign OHare over every other midfielder in this division right now.

Onwards and upwards. Hang onto the crown jewellery please Forest...all of them.

Agree Colback looked like the player I knew he was. A Useless one!!

Widow, i really dont know what game you were watching today to make that statement. He was excellent generally. And lets not forget its the first game hes played for quite a while, he's only going to get better with more game time under his belt.

Ha ha! I agree. We are a poor team. I always thought Coventry were nailed on for regelation unfortunately I think we might be too!

RE: Coventry City - Nottingham Forest - TheGreenMan - 08-08-2021

As soon as I saw Yates was captain I felt like getting back in my car and coming home. Well our captain fantastic certainly didn’t let us down did he with that disgraceful, unprofessional ‘tackle’ that lead to the winning goal. I’ll almost be glad when Grabban’s back as captain.

I actually thought Coventry were poor for the first hour or so, but with Hughton’s refusal to go for a second goal it was only ever going to play into there favour.

I never wanted this clown in the first place and it’s going to be a long hard season for as long as he’s here. There’s no excuse in the world for negativity….

RE: Coventry City - Nottingham Forest - Long John - 08-08-2021

His tactics are to sit behind a lead and play to protect. It’s been the same since he first took over. The game has progressed in the last 4 or 5 years. We are easy to play against. A team who will be in the bottom 4 or 5 beat us today as simple as that.

I was thinking more the player who was 2nd in supporters player of the year polls under Karanka and clearly a very good player at this level. Like Pap, I thought he looked very decent today, one of the few who managed it in both halves.

As an aside I am a bit surprised at the over the top and in some cases downright nasty reactions directed at some of our players this evening and our manager for that matter. I am certainly not a "happy clapper" and was as gutted as the next man in the 96th minute and at the result. Two of our subs were made as the lads coming off could not continue, yet CH is getting hammered for his use of subs! The usual scapegoats actually did OK in the circumstances.

Constructive criticism is fine, but these are young lads who gave everything today in a game that could have gone either way don't deserve some of the sh1t being directed at them. Collectively, we didn't hold onto the ball well enough 2nd half. We need to improve and any signings have to be at it from the off.
Rant over.

Really? England just got their 2nd best ever tournament result using just those tactics.

As Cloughy once said "alot of bollocks is talked about tactics". If the outstanding Johnson slots just before HT, or the fluke richochets go our way in 2nd half, it would be a tactical master class away from home. They didn't so now it's tactically inept.

I agree with Cloughy.

We will huff and puff but with a lack of sufficient attacking threat and a defensive unit comprising a large proportion of Bong, Figs, Gabriel, Colback and Yates we will lose more than we win I’m afraid.

A defensive unit comprising Worrall/McKenna Yates/Colback would likely win more than they lose for me.

Attacking threat of Johnson, Mighten, Lolley (don't know much about Zinkernagel) and Centre Forward scoring goals will do me. Remains to be seen if the CF scores goals - certainly didn't last season-but one from one is a good start.

The rest remains to be seen.
