Hope so - that little lot comes to well over £10m a year.

And that’s before we look at the 15 players or so that were already here.

Diallo 6K, seriously?

More like 600.

Nottingham Forest is a medium sized club with medium sized finances. There is nothing outlandish about how much the club spends. NFFC wage bill is 12th or 13th in the league.

Since these owners took charge NFFC has stayed within FFP regulations. Remember what a total car crash the finances were under Fawaz when Davies was manager when the club wildly overspent and was sanctioned with a transfer embargo.

NFFC are very frugal and financially savvy compared to those days, and budget much better than most other clubs of our size - Derby, Sheff Wed, Bristol City etc.

We only stay within budget by selling high value youth players, how long can that be guaranteed for?

That is one reason but not the only reason. I personally think it's a bit of a myth.

Matty Cash is 23 how long do you stay a youth player for? Once Cash reached a certain standard there was absolutely no way on earth that we could keep him at Forest. Once PL clubs came knocking he was on his way and we could do absolutely nothing about it except to get the best pounds possible for him which we did.

Marinakis sold Appiah who has since done bugger all in Spain.

So is it really true that Marinakis sells our high value youth players?

Doughty sold Reid, Dawson, Jenas etc.

Fawaz sold Burke and Lascelles.

It's nothing new. People used it as a stick to beat our current owners with but where is the evidence to back it up?

How can it be a myth? Have we not sold young talent for decent money to stay within FFP?

My definition of youth player was someone who has come from the system within the Club, I wasn't suggesting we keep Matty Cash and I'm not sure what they've done since they've left has anything to do with the point of the thread or my post.

So yes, it is true that Marinakis has had to sell high value youth players, year on year, to fund our profligacy and mismanagement.

I agree, its nothing new. Again that it is irrelevant. What we do know with Doughty that, in addition to selling young talent, he did pump substantial personal wealth into the Club that he (or ultimately his estate) never got back.

Hence pressure re Worrall, Mighten et al.

It is our recruitment strategy ( eg lengthy contracts to the likes of Arter, Bong etc ) that is the problem.

And that is a stick that the owners are rightfully beaten with.

Absolutely spot on.

Can someone make a list of all these youth players that Marinakis has sold.

RE: NFFC Financial Talk - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 31-12-2020

Yes it's a myth. If it's not prove me wrong. Name all those youth players that Marinakis has sold.

RE: NFFC Financial Talk - Salvatore Matrecano - 31-12-2020

Its not a long list.

Brereton
Ahmedozic
Appiah
Osborn
Cash
Walker

Of those all but Appiah would have asked for a move and lets be honest for him it was a decent fee.

The issue for most of us is how it was reinvested. McKenna etc absolutely great. Arter and the rest not so much. Unfortunately there are far too many in the latter category.

The biggest problem is the sheer turnover, 70 players in 3 years, how on earth can you expect to build a settled team and generate any kind of spirit and passion when the squad barely know each other.

Selling high value players is what most non-parachute clubs do to try and compete isn’t it? Except Sheff W and Derby who sold their stadiums to the owner. Bristol City sell a player every year. Brentford sell their top player every year. Etc

The academy has done a very good job of providing income up to now, but I agree, with two rapidly improving category 1 academies on our doorstep (one of which is a top 10 Premier League club), there’s no guarantee that our academy will continue to produce the goods.

The fact it’s nothing new isn’t irrelevant. It shows that a club of our size has to sell high value assets every year in order to compete. We are a selling club as they used to call it.

(31-12-2020, 03:03 PM)Sniffer Dog Wrote: Yes it's a myth. If it's not prove me wrong. Name all those youth players that Marinakis has sold.

We've sold the following players that came up through the Forest youth system since the current owner took over;

Ben Brereton
Ben Osborn
Arvin Appiah
Tyler Walker
Matty Cash

Ownership started with the 2017/18 season, so we are now in the 4th season under Mr Marinakis' ownership.

Under the previous owner, we sold the following players that had graduated from the academy;

Karl Darlow
Jamal Lascelles
Oliver Burke

2012/13 was the first year, so Fawaz owned Forest for 5 seasons. That's 3 in 5 seasons.

But all of this misses the point. Ownership needs to balance the books, and players have power. Of the above eight names, I believe that only Walker was retainable given the size of club, their relative position to Forest at the time and the wages on offer.

In a sporting sense, Cash and Lascelles are the only ones I'd take back now. One day.

RE: NFFC Financial Talk - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 31-12-2020

Thank you SM.

Brereton, I remember the comments on here, he's S**t, get rid etc etc. 8M was fantastic business like everyone agreed at the time.
Cah and Osborn to me are not youth players in my opinion. They are seasoned pros well into their 20's.
Walker most agreed was not good enough. We hardly cashed in on him. I think we got 500K.
Ahmedozic, did we even get a fee? We didn't cash in on him either.
Appiah, I agree, he's the only one but he's done nowt since he left so it's looking like a good piece of business.

That is why I think it's all a bit of a myth.

RE: NFFC Financial Talk - wassy04 - 31-12-2020

Most look about right although some I think are clearly wrong, Im sure Bachirou isnt on £18K and Im absolutely certain Colback is on more than £10K.

Diallo - 6k/ wk (if he actually exists)
Ioannou - 4k
Blackett - free - 8.5k
Soh - 5m (?), 5.5k
Mckenna - 4m (?) - £15k
Christie - loan, £20k
Colback - free £10k
Cafu - loan - £2.6K wow bargain!
Arter - Shudders, any transfer fee? £20k
Fred - free (?) - £18 K surely not
Knockaert - loan - £37.5k (doubt we are paying all of it)
Taylor - free - 20k
Guerroro - free (or loan?) - 12.5k
Freeman - Loan - 30k (again hopefully not paying all of it)

At least most of these are contributing in some way, we are currently pissing away over £80k a week for Clough, Hefele, Bong, Dawson and Jenkinson to sit on their arses.
[/quote]

I was pretty close then on most counts!

Of the above, how many are we stuck with? Soh, Mckenna, Colback, Ioannou (although seems to be interest in him), Fred (not sure his contract length), Taylor, Arter.

Given we got rid of 8 players not including Carv or Da Costa that means we've likely trimmed the squad once you remove loans and short term contracts.

For me Arter is the only example in this window of the classic paying loads of fee/wages for a player with no resale and past his peek.

Obviously the previous failings we're still stuck with too.
