Can you imagine him and some of this lot being asked to run through Nettles like Cloughie made the double time European cup winners???

Forgot he even existed

Can’t help thinking rather than constantly complaining about lack of signings we would be far better off trying to get some of the player we have under contract back on the pitch.
Many of these were bought for huge sums of money so the potential is there.

Richards
Shelvey as said on the other thread
Dennis, what’s happened to him?
OBrien
£25 million worth there, all of them have ability or have shown it in the past.

Reckon any one of those would be an improvement on what we had on the pitch last night.

Actually disagree there, I think we should be cutting our losses on most of these, aside from Richards.

Shelvey was a liability and plays a position that we're still reasonably stocked in. We improved a lot after his banishment. Not sure why we'd want to bring him back. Something obviously happened with O'Brien. Suspect he's also burned too many bridges.

Dennis is not good, doesn't fit Cooper's system and is never going to play without changing manager, so no reason to keep him. He might still have some value right now compared to another year on the bench.

Maybe we agree to disagree then.

If I said to you we had just signed a left back from Bayern Munich, a midfielder from a top 6 club with over 300 PL appearances, a centre forward who scored for fun in a struggling PL team and one of the most highly rated midfielders in the Championship you would be celebrating as would everyone else.

Besides, rather than last nights game playing Hwang, Aguilera, Freuler, Panzo and Powell, none of whom are likely to feature much season coming do you not think it would have been better to play Dennis OBrien Shelvey and Richards (if he exists)? For me all of the above are far more likely to make an impact for us especially if we are struggling to bring new players in.

I think Richards is either still injured or unavailable for other reasons.

Shelvey/O'Brien have been deemed to be a bad influence on the squad, I wouldn't want to change the good vibes we had last year.

Dennis, I think it would've made more sense to keep him involved but perhaps this indicates he's close to the exit. Sometimes you have to be tough to force players to accept moves they don't want to make.

Think O'Brien is also having a break due to the MLS season having not-long finished.

RE: Injuries And Suspensions - Salvatore Matrecano - 03-08-2023

I get the points you are making and agree to an extent.

Just saying that it is irrational to moan about lack of incomings and the impact of FFP, then have £25m worth of talent signed just a year ago sitting in your bomb squad.

Nice to see Biancone back on the grass last night following his serious injury.

Indeed Sniffer. Think he has been unfairly written off by some and labelled with last seasons failures.

Very good character by all accounts. Didnt work when we went 442 low block last season but if we play a more mobile back 3 he should fit on the right side, fingers crossed.

Filipe to miss start of season with ‘ongoing knee injury’ … great!
