Uh-oh. That midfield looks painfully light even if we do land O Brien, need at least 2 in for me before the start, would like an older head someone with some recent PL experience too. Surely there is someone who used to play for one of the bigger clubs that cant now get in the team.
I know Colback has done it but 6 years since he played in the PL.

The problem with that will likely be wages. Do we want to pay a premium for wages to a player who will unlikely have any resale. It might be that we get that type of player but don't think it will happen until the end of transfer window

I used to agree with you about the resale bit when in the Championship and FFP was an issue.. Those rules dont apply now and as User says above we are rolling the dice in terms of those who we hope will be up to the mark but we really dont know. Besides hopefully a few of the newbies will be worth a serious wedge in a few years, be nice to make a profit for a change.

Think we need to burn some money and get an experienced head in somewhere. Wages may be big but older usually means transfer fee is less. Before anyone says it Im not advocating going back 2 years when everyone we brought in seemed to be a pensioner, but we cant have a team of babies and PL virgins either.

Not many proven at Premier League level.

Reminds me of when Fulham got promoted last time and spent £120m.

Hopefully we get more right than we do wrong.

I think Niakhate and Williams seem reasonably safe, or at least have high floors.

Richards and Awoniyi I would put in the gamble category definitely.

Henderson is as sure thing as you could get and arguably out of our league.

Always going to be tough if we couldn't re-sign the loans as we just had to buy a new team.

I wouldn’t describe Williams as safe, far from it.

As I say, we’ve signed very little with experience at this level.

30+ caps for Wales, made a few appearances for Liverpool and did well for Fulham. Not saying its likely he's as good as Spence but at the same time it's unlikely he's a flop in my opinion due to his international experience. Plus should still retain largely the same resale value too or at least near to it.

Would rather sign young players with plenty of room for growth than midtable journeymen. Sounds like the formula we used for years in the Championship to no success.

What is with this desperation for experience? What does that really mean in terms of their ability? If they're experienced and coming to Forest it means they're not good enough for a team higher up therefore they're unlikely to help the team.

If they're young and coming to Forest it means that whilst they may not have the ability right now there's lots of possibilities that they improve to become good enough. If we overpaid and took that risk that noone else was willing which is fine, we need to do this to make up ground.

Not sure what benefit we'd have in signing a Drinkwater or a Delph for example (players that can't get into below average teams) who'd also be on much higher wages than O'Brien for example too.

I do agree but do they need premier league experience or just big league experience.

The reason I say this is because I recall Leicester signing cambiasso when they first got promoted back into pl. He was in his 30s and signed for free but arguably it was his contribution and know how that was pivotal to them staying up. It was his only season for them but he won their player of the season.

If we could get that type of player in the middle of the park then that could be hugely important

We’ll see mate, hope you’re right.

In the short term, survival is key.

RE: NFFC Squad 2022/23 - Sausage Roll - 13-07-2022

I wonder if we might keep Mighten this season rather than send him on loan. Obviously it's very early days but feedback from those who've seen both the first two friendlies has him as the standout player. It's certainly an area of the pitch where we need bodies so with being able to name nine subs and bring five on it might make sense to keep him around.

RE: NFFC Squad 2022/23 - Salvatore Matrecano - 13-07-2022

How do we feel about our central midfield assuming we bring in O Brien?
So you pick 2 from Yates, Colback and Obrien to play in the middle.
Does that work, is there the quality there?

Take the Garibaldi tinted specs off do we honestly feel that combo would be good enough to dominate games in the PL?

I'd want someone more imposing in there as well. The likes of Onana and Mangala that we've been linked with.

They gonna need a +20 million pound man

Not for me

I don't know the plans for him, but I've taken some stick previously for saying this lad will be a star. Last season was disrupted due to injury and previous to that...well Chris Hughton......

Still a youngster and maybe he is this years break through player?

A loan to a good Championship side like Norwich or Boro round probably bring him through quicker than sitting on bench. However, with the amount of cash we've already spent investing in potential starters  Mighten could be a key man off the bench?
