Dimitru, Bonatini, Macheda and Mir.
They must be the worst 4 strikers ever to play in the Championship and we somehow managed to sign all of them!!

Hope the powers that be are reading this - or perhaps Danny Taylor.
These points need making.
Oh & if you’re reading the thread Paul Taylor - don’t bother to copy as no one reads your garbage.

Yeah, I wanted us to sign him since he fell out with the Norwich manager a year or so ago. He went to AEK Athens for under 3m, and has now scored 8 goals in 10 so far this season.
Would have been PERFECT for this system, and the ideal forward to both cover & compliment Grabban in a 2 IMO.
The recruitment at this club on the whole, include loans, has been frankly very poor under EM & very wasteful. Even the good players we've signed this year don't seem to be able to last more than 10 games before breaking.
The loan philosophy is mind boggling - send out our striker who's scored 26 goals last season, 8 goals so far this season, to replace him with a kid who can't even score 1. Then loan in a load of other players who aren't anywhere near ready to hold down a regular place in the side. WTF? Just who is judging these players? IMO no-one, they're just doing what agents tell them.
I don't trust our recruitment division one bit. They're naive to what's required, and gullible (hello 13m Carvalho & 3m Soudani). If I were EM i'd want 3 promotion standard players here, ready to hit the ground running and able to last the season for 10m or less, and I'd want them ready to sign Jan 1st too. Colback, Olivera, McGinn, Grosicki - you could have had all them for less than that.
It's a massive Achilles heel at the club, and is letting us down badly, and if we have a poor Jan I wouldn't think twice about sacking & replacing all of them. The errors they've made so far display a massive failing to grasp what's available & what's required. How they've shaped our frontline into relying on 1 goalscorer is gobsmacking.
The last thing we need is more sackings and more upheaval internally. I'd be happy to go through another window with this lot to see what they can do. Modesto has said he knows he's gonner if he gets it wrong.
I suspect that that we got shafted somehow in the summer re the strikers as no one in their right mind will have been content with just Grabbs (with his injury record of last season fresh in their minds) and young Mir. I reckon a couple of strikers went elsewhere at the last minute by which time Walker, Soudani and Ansarifard had been cleared out to free up squad space.
Which to me mate, displays more naivety - letting folk go before you've already replaced them.
Thing is EM will sack someone if we fail to go up, and I sooner keep Mouch than the frauds who have short-changed him. It's these suits who have driven our club into the ground for years (just look at examples in this thread)
Most the good loans came when Davies was in charge, and he'd some free reign to get players he knew who fit into his system. Until we become a club which allows footballing people to make the footballing decisions, instead of businessmen & suits who all go through agents & recommendations, we'll always have a major Achilles heel IMO.
Let's see what Jan brings, but we need to see at least 3 proven players bought here ready to start matches & contribute from the off. None of this "give them time to deveop" malarky, the opportunity is there for us now.

Of those arguably, Oliveira, Colback, Dowell did well with Figueredo and Pants signed on deals.
Gardner and Janko were OK, Tomlin flattered to deceive.
So being fairly generous thats 8 out of 33 that were reasonably successful, the rest as per Duncan’s comment above.
I guess the conclusion is that players who are available on loan are available because they're pretty much, well, crap. :s
I don't agree. There have been some excellent players on loan in The Championship. We have used the system very very badly.

No one has mentioned Huckerby - should have been signed.

We only (only :)) went back 10 years.
Believe it or not Huckerby was in 2003, 16 years ago!

Huckerby. The one that got away. I remember when he tore Derby to pieces.
It was a no-brainer to sign him. Didn't Paul Hart want him?

This ^ well said Salvatore.
It can be done, other teams have done in but we have failed massively.
If you bring in 11 players and only 4-ish are any good?
Then recruitment needs improving. I accept that the recruitment team haven't had that long to 'get down on it' and Forest are probably a year behind the likes of West Brom, Leeds and Fulham.
All teams have one or two that don't work out. But a less than half hit rate isn't good enough.
In the scheme of things. Still 'previous' players to get off the books and moved on. ....and to send back the loans that haven't worked out.
That leaves room for an improved January windows. Staying in the top 6 may depend on it. Let alone any whimsical hope of a top 2 assault.
It's right to demand top 6 targets for any Forest manager. But you also need a top 6 squad to match.

If memory serves me right wasn't it down to Doughty that we didn't sign Huckerby?

I think you're right.
Huckerby, Scimeca...etc. The spine of a successful top 6 side let go and not replaced.
Part of a chop and change regime that failed to build on any success that was had.
No wonder Hart was resigned to his fate.
