Using the furlough scheme isn't taking the piss, it's eligible to do so just like other companies.
The club obviously hasn't net spent on transfer fees. We don't know if the club has increased it's wage bill, or at least will have done by the close of the transfer window.
But if the club has increased its wage bill, about 55%-60% of that extra wage spend goes to Her Majesty's Treasury in income tax. And then there's stamp duty on the house, 20% VAT on the new car or whatever they spend on.
It's crucial for this country that spending doesn't contract. So if Forest increase their expenditure it's a good thing both for Nottingham and the country. And as NFFC runs at a loss, that money is essentially coming from abroad from the owner, foreign direct investment into this country. It's a good thing for the UK.
So worst case, using the furlough scheme - I don't know how many pounds we're talking about - just means that some is recycled from the govt and less is coming from Greece to our local economy. It would be the lack of benevolency rather than taking the piss.
I think linking criticism of increasing expenditure with using the furlough scheme is ideology at the expense of pragmatism. It would actually seem more logical to criticize using the furlough scheme if the club cut expenditure.

you apply the code as a coupon and it discounts it to £0 but you have to go through the motion of choosing a payment option...

Yep.
Went through that process earlier in the week Joe.
But getting ‘on line’ today was not the most obvious process...

Revised option 1 detail now announced - at first sight looks to be a distinctly improved offer.
No real change to option 2 - thought they may have allowed those that chose this option to revert to option 1.

Nottingham Forest would like to place on record their thanks to all supporters who renewed their season cards and have subsequently provided the club with their preferred option for the 2020-21 season.
The club fully respects the challenge many fans are facing whether that is related to health, wellbeing, financial or other.
Following the previous announcement from government that has delayed the return of fans into football stadia, the club would like to provide revised options for existing season card holders.
For adult and senior season card holders who had selected option 1, the following benefits have been updated until fans are allowed back into The City Ground...
- Exclusive iFollow access for all 23 home and seven midweek away games (a value of £300)
- For every home game missed, the club will credit on a pro-rata basis each ticket account with the difference between the season card price and the iFollow offer. In addition, the club will give adults a bonus of 15% of the ticket credit per game played behind closed doors with a further bonus for seniors
- A guaranteed prize freeze for 2021-22 season cards
- 50% off an upgrade to a matchday hospitality experience in the 2021-22 season
- £10 voucher to spend on 2020-21 replica home or away kit (to be emailed out to season card holders)
- Further retail promotions during the season
For youth season card holders who had selected option 1, the following benefits have been updated until fans are allowed back into The City Ground...
- Exclusive iFollow access for all 23 home and seven midweek away games (a value of £300)
- Whilst the value of iFollow is substantially higher than the total cost of a youth season card, the club will also credit each youth ticket account with £2 per game played behind closed doors
- A guaranteed prize freeze for 2021-22 season cards (even if the card holder is due to change price band)
- £10 voucher to spend on 2020-21 replica home or away kit (to be emailed out to season card holders)
- Further retail promotions during the season
For junior and child season card holders who had selected option 1, the following benefits have been updated until fans are allowed back into The City Ground...
- Exclusive iFollow access for all 23 home and seven midweek away games (a value of £300)
- Whilst the value of iFollow is substantially higher than the total cost of junior and child season cards, the club will credit each ticketing account with £2 and £1 respectively per game played behind closed doors
- A guaranteed prize freeze for 2021-22 season cards (even if the card holder is due to change price band)
- 50% discount on any NFFC Community Trust Soccer School in the 2020-21 season
- Free name and numbering on any future replica shirt purchase
- Further retail promotions during the season
For season card holders who had selected option 2 (rolling refund)...
- The club shall look to refund card holders monthly in arrears until all season card holders can be accommodated
- The first refund for the September match will be paid at the end of October
- Retention of rights as a season card holder for renewal in the 2021-22 season
- In addition, the club can confirm you shall also have a price freeze on renewal for the 2021-22 season
Finally, whilst it looks unlikely at this stage, should the initial return of fans matches not be sold out, the club would look to ballot the remaining tickets with this group.
Further communication
The club will be emailing all season card holders to give further details with the applicable options specific to your circumstances.
Nottingham Forest would like to thank you for your patience during this challenging time.
