So maybe they aren’t going to sack the manager because they have been told you will be going back into lockdown just like we are in Scotland and therefore don’t see the point in having a new man in who can’t take training anyways. Why pay him off when the season will be cancelled and we would be paying two head coaches to do nothing.

How is that for a theory?

Judging by the way previous managers have been sacked, they will not pull the trigger until they have a replacement lined up, and therein lies the problem.

If the rumours are correct and we are going for a UK manager with previous EFL experience we might find the Job to be a very hard sell, particularly now we are only handing out one and two year contracts.

The life expectancy of a Championship manager is around 10 Months; that fact would be much less of a concern if the manager was getting a 3 or 4 year deal.

Why bother taking the Job on if you are possibly going to be out of work in less than a year with little or no compensation?

I think we can definitely rule Howe out on that basis, and possibly Hughton too; Pearson is probably desperate enough to be interested but is that the basis of a succesfull relationship.

I'm not sure Cook would be a good fit; he did a good job in difficult circumstances at Wigan, but commanding the respect of a bunch of young, but talented, Academy rejects from other Clubs is one thing, commanding the respect of seasoned professionals is another.

Given the suspected criteria I would guess that Allardyce fits the bill; that is if the rumour of him working for a low wage and high promotion bonus is true.

Otherwise you are looking at another foreign manager.

We are just not an attractive proposition any more, especially now the gravy train has hit the buffers.

I think we are!  We have decent players, decent support, and a decent owner. Last season we were pushing the top 2 hard for quite a while and with a bit more luck could well be playing in the premier league. What's not attractive about any of that? I think Vrentzos will have a pile of CV's on his desk right now.

I think we are!  We have decent players, decent support, and a decent owner. Last season we were pushing the top 2 hard for quite a while and with a bit more luck could well be playing in the premier league. What's not attractive about any of that? I think Ventros will have a pile of CV's on his desk right now.

Yes Pap, we are a decent proposition if you look at things in that way; unfortunately managers are just as mercenary as players are and it will come down to money and length of contract and not the fact that we are a sleeping giant, allegedly.

I have no doubt that we will be inundated with CVs; the problem starts when the Club start to offer a one year or two year or a one year rolling contract.

A lot of managers, particularly the higher profile ones, will not wear a Years contract and will sit back and wait for the sackings to start elsewhere.

It will be a foreign coach again.

I’ve never been a fan of Nigel coming back - but I have an inkling that he would be very competitive with this squad. My concern would be his acceptance of a long term project - not something that either the fans or owners would buy into.

That is perfectly correct; if you look at the managers who got teams promoted over the last 5 or 6 years, half of them are foreign.

There are rumours on Vital that Hughton has been offered the job.

All of those had English league experience or were in their second season though remember.  Nationality is broadly irrelevant
