Barnsley - Nottingham Forest
Got to figure out how to create a bit more. Wingers were all poor, particularly Da Costa.

Freeman looked lively, carvalho played well I thought. Pressure will be on from game one next week

Tin pot cup or not, it’s still a competitive game which ends up in yet another defeat. Dreams of top two finish are not realistic based on games played over the last 3 months despite new signings?

Is this the League Cup competition that Forest have won 4 times?

Exiting in the 1st round to the likes of scruffy Barnie?

SA.

That was many decades ago. We’re a middle of the road second tier club these days. That kind of view is way out of date. We’ve lost 4 out of the last 6 away at scruffy Barnie.

Played badly. Lost. Got what we deserved.

Can't ask for more than that

Da Costa was one of the better ones. Won us a number of free kicks. Should have had more protection from the ref from the constant fouling on him.

Awful that was. No patterns of play, ponderous in midfield, isolated centre forwards, lack of pressing from the front, weak tackles, poor first touches. You can put some of it down to early games and rustiness but we need a big improvement of Sabri persists with low possession.
The new midfielder wasn’t great - some really poor decisions and goes to ground too easy. Colback will improve the midfield. Carvalho really needs to be in a team that has the ball.
Distribution from the back was so poor. Riberio was so rusty. Gabriel did OK.
Da Costa probably our best player and I’d only give him a 6/10.

Gabriel did ok?! I was obviously watching a different game.

Lost 3 and failed to score in 3.

Been terrible since January

We may question the barometers of pre-season...and now the League Cup.

But it hasn't been good since January.

Some 'ok' debuts.  But Forest seemed rusty and lethargic.

We got Gabriel and Mighten in the side.

Let's face it.  Forest aren't at full strength until they bed all the new signings in.

...and that performance seemed to confirm Forest needed some quality on the wings, a CM who can provide the killer pass and...a CH giant.

Early days.  But I did want better than that.  Season begins next week.

Forest need some kind of talismanic figure.  And it isn't there.  I like Sow.  Injured he may be.  But I like his aggressive approach to the centre of the park.

Lack of creativity still a problem.

I remember after Dave Bassett brought in his £12 million spending spree.

The 1st game of the season. Or the earliest one I remember. Vs Norwich.

Forest went at them with energy. Aggression. Attack!

Put some rockets and missiles past Norwich.

I will reserve judgement until the real business begins at QPR next week.
