What Is The Clubs Transfer Strategy

When it comes to transfers i'm not complaining and from what I can see any complaints about it are based on one simple sentence

We were a bag of shite and we should have had transfer policy that got us promoted in a season, personally I find that laughable

Samba, Cash, Figs, Worrall, Ribs, Sow Sammy all big successes this year, with Grabban, Yates and Watson all stepping up even if we lose 1 or 2 we are looking far more like a side going places, step by step improvement in pretty much all areas of the team

I couldn't care less about this season in terms of output, personally I would not have finished the league and play offs without me there is no play off at all again its a personal thing but I would have been gutted if we'd got to Wembley a piss up on Trent Bridge and in Forest Car Park, you can keep it

Its a well done Forest for me on the transfer front and if we can get 2 or 3 more to perform as well as Brice Sammy and Sow we are in with a hell of a chance next season and we'll be there to see it

Generally, outside of the Prem, very few clubs do anything spectacular in January. West Brom did OK chasing a player coveted by many Championship sides.You also get absolutely shafted by selling club and the players agent. Plus we no longer need average players to replace less than average players, we need very good players to replace good players if we are to improve, because we have improved if that makes sense.

It's in the summer that is crucial to us if we are to challenge again. We can improve every position on the pitch other than RB (where we will probably weaken) if the right player at the right price is available. 

I'd love to see us  buy a very good CB to play alongside Worrall  first and foremost. But with experience thats not likely to be cheap. Keeping Watson is key despite the naysayers going on about his age. Yates developing further (as per Worrall) or  signing someone to cover for Sow is clearly important. Can we be lucky with Grabban staying fit all season again? Probably not. 

Silva needs to massively up his creativity and provide more goals and assists or be replaced. Lee Tomlin type that stays fit. Also we are hoping a couple of fringe players kick on like DaCosta. 

The core is in place and the rest needs to be in place  mid Sept. January should be about holding onto our players as we storm to promotion, not buying overpriced, overpaid players (Zak Clough anyone) out of desperation. Average players aplenty can be found, but good and very good? Not so much.

Err....hang on...this forum isn’t Twitter you know. We dont have to either think we are amazing or useless based on what the last result was. There is a middle ground.
Basically, historically our transfer strategy has been poor, significantly better last summer but still some failings and awful loans. There is nothing wrong with saying there is still vast room for improvement and there needs to be a more coherent plan than randomly accepting whatever Mendes puts on the table. But yes assuming the recruitment team is learning from its mistakes we can and will get there.

Well said SM. There has been plenty of praise from people on this forum for our permanent signings. People are a bit angry with some of our loans and with what happened in January but that is surely justified criticism isn't it?

In a bad mood today as coming back from holiday to a bloody needless quarantine. If cash and Worrall go and we get a load of crap in to replace them then I’d be bloody fuming. For too long we have sold our best players. It’s a business - I get that but unless we get top dollar to fund some serious investment in the squad with proven championship quality then I’m not spending another penny on them.

Well it’s amazing, I’ve been questioning the clubs recruitment from last summer and now looks like everyone suddenly on the bandwagon after defending it, including the likes of Daniel Taylor
