It was never going to happen though Sniff was it? If EM wants blood they will be feeding back to him that Sabri had the tools but failed, knowing that they f****d up in the winter window.
No. These are EM's trusted generals along with Vrentzos and Dourekas.
As Napoleon once said ‘Give me lucky generals’.
These ‘trusted generals’ failed miserably in January.
EM - the hugely successful businessman that he is - may have faith in them and it may extend yet longer but he will demand results!

That's my point. They're not going to hold their hands up and confess to EM that they got it wrong. It's the manager that's going to get the bullet.

IF EM cannot see that the recruitment in January was duff, then i am not sure he knows anything about football (and I know that is not the case)
So hope knuckles will be rapped, (not just the head coach) but at the same time, he needs to give the guys better backing !

Modesto and Anigo only scout the players; Vrentzos decides how much we will pay for the players and how much wages we offer.
When Clubs refuse to sell to us or players refuse to come, usually for money related issues, how can that be the fault of the scouts?

Maybe they didn’t come up with realistic targets?
Gayle, Freeman and Grosicki were the main January targets if you believe The Athletic. Ambitious, but how likely were they to come here? Nothing wrong with trying, but where were the back up targets.
I agree with your general point, it isn’t the scouts job to negotiate finances.
Also, some fans make it sound like we have money to burn when in reality we have mid-table income to play with.

Grosicki refused to come after a fee was agreed with Hull, so he must have been a reasonable target.
Freeman refused to come on loan because he wanted to stay and fight for his place.
There was a French player who refused to come after a fee was agreed and there was another French player were the Club would not sell.
January is a very difficult window to deal in with fees and wages being inflated to ridiculous levels; more and more Clubs are refusing to do business in that window.
It goes deeper than the cost element too; The Athletic published a detailed report showing the impact that players have who moved during the January window; the impact was so bad it made you wonder why Clubs bother.
We will be well off financially compared to most Clubs in our division; Vrentzos has done an amazing job getting the Accounts into such an healthy state considering the car crash he inherited.
Wages in particular are coming down to a sustainable level which will leave us in a good position for the introduction of the wage cap; that is no excuse to go back to the days when we over spent on both transfer fees and wages.
If players will not come for what is on offer, move on to the next one.

Yeah, i am sure Swansea are fuming they brought in Conor Galagher and Brewster in January. Same for the Man Utd fan with Fernandes and Ighalo
I wonder how the Hammers feel about Jarod Bowen, cost an arm and a leg but helped keep them up.
Fulham did ok
Kamil Grosiki did great at WBA. Chester shored up the Stoke defence, Hogan scored lots of goals for Brum[/align]
Augustin wasnt a success for Leeds, but helped push on Bamford, who had a great second half of the season/
And Derby did so much better with Rooney inside from the beginning of January.
So you can do good recruitment in January, with the right financial backing and the right scouts etc

Not sure why folks are making excuses for a poor transfer window (plus not getting the striker in the summer we desperately needed)

Nope me neither. And you're right, letting Soudani, Ansarifard, Murphy, Bonatini, Appiah & Walker all leave and only bringing in young Mir on loan was crazy stuff. It was especially bad considering that Grabban had spent large parts of the season before out injured with MoN having to nurse him through to the end.
Looking at it now in hindsight, it was either a raid on the club's assets, or just plain incompetence.

Not sure the best thread for this but Just seen the following on twitter, not sure of the validity but most of the figures look about right. A quick calculation show we are spending£400k a week in wages. That is probably nowhere near some clubs who have been in the prem recently but suffice to say we could do better. There are players on there who have made no contribution this season on eye watering sums (again if this is correct).

Well the Hammers fans were not that impressed with Bowen; the ones I know claim that Antonio's goals and the performances from Sucek kept them up; they were pretty underwhelmed with Bowen and are hoping for much better to come.
Cavaleiro and Reid have been at Fulham all season; they were on a loan to perm agreement which was finalised in January.
You could question the impact that Fosu and Baptiste had at Brentford, one played a grand total of 301 minutes over 11 games and the other 386 minutes over 14 games; obviously been bought for the future.
Grosicki struggled to break into the Albion side only starting on 3 occasions in which he was subbed in 2 of them; the rest of the time he was on the bench.
It is a very difficult window to be dealing in and we should only use it as a last resort; we should be aiming to get all of our business done in this window.
We will never have a coherent transfer policy until we stop changing managers like we do.
