Every team in the league wants an experienced striker, problem is they aren’t available for loan unless they have either lost form, coming back from injury or are just past it and taking up wages somewhere else.
More likely is a loan of an up and coming striker from the prem who needs game time. But thats just plain odd when we already have Ben sitting there clamouring for a game.
You say its up to him to show in training and I wonder if that is the issue, its an non negotiable for AK to work hard, wonder if he is moaning a bit?

The problem of getting a quality player in on loan is how much game time can we give them - Grabban is first choice hence minimising the opportunity for the loan player ( with Murphy, Brereton & Soudani also banging on the managers door ).

Fair comment.  He's going to have to work hard for the shirt.  They all are.  (Credit to Os' and Cash who have shown they're up for that fight.  No sulking there...)

The bad habit of 'falling over' looking for the foul didn't do him any favours.  That raised a red flag for me.  I don't doubt his quality.  (That goal vs Arsenal was Collymore class.)  He's got pace.  He's got ability.  Now he has to fight for the shirt.  Has he got the attitude to do so?

Last season put Worrall and Brereton in a false position in that the club had little other options or choice (and other Academy players.)  But by the time Warburton was on the eve of his exit both players looked heavy shouldered (and Worrall shell shocked at times looking after himself and an experienced pro' like Mancienne.) and mistakes were magnified.

What should have been gradual development for Smith, Worrall, Cash, Brereton became a sink or swim situation as Forest entered free fall...with the lack of quality in the experienced pro's unable to weather the storm or inspire or protect are Academy players.  4-5 Academy players in a team was a lot.  A bit like the make do or die era under Paul Hart.

With a thoroughly overhauled squad of quality, their participation will be appropriate.  *(I'm thinking of Steve Hodge talking about his introduction at Forest as a young player...and his twilight were a young Keane began to eclipse him...)  ...and measured.  They've got genuine quality players to fight past and need to perform consistently to keep the shirt...when that opportunity comes.

I think the ability is there.  But there is proven quality, experience and power ahead of them.  They're going to have to knuckle down and compete.

In the current team he would do well?  A through ball from our Portuguese talent and Ben would be on it like a flash.  But he's got to get past Grabban in training.  And Murphy's experience to occupy defenders is also preferred as well.

I don't doubt his ability.  But, like playing for England, sometimes you don't play, you get dropped and it's the 'what are you going to do about it?' that counts.

I guess that is a possibility.  If(!) it is, temporary storm in a tea cup.  Forest aren't going to let him go for a £5 million to Blackburn.  They can get bent.

But that answer to that 'thought' is, 'What's he doing in training?'  Can he show that his ability is bigger than his ego?

Cash has been benched and out the squad even, after a sound run of games last season where his energy and goals showed him as a player of promise.

He's bounced back and made one goal and scored another...he, like Os' are the standard bearers of 'attitude' that will get you into the 1st team.

Aitor.  Non-negotiable to work hard.  That applies to everyone.  Eg.  Dias looked tired after 60 mins?  Makes one mistake too many?  He's off.  Someone else is on.  It's fair.  You play well?  You keep the shirt.  You work hard in training?  You get your chance.

It's the same for Bridcutt.  He's just got to keep his head down in training.  When the chance comes?  Take it.

As for a loan of any up and coming strikers.  I'm not so sure Forest will loan anyone else now.  They've got Grabban, Murphy, Soudani, Ben for one striking spot.

Thats still too low but you are correct, someone is giving a hint either that he wants to go or that we are willing to sell for the right price.
Wouldnt be surprised if there is a late bid from a prem club, Newcastle or the like, 10M and hes gone.

We should keep Ben and give him a chance to show what he can do alongside the quality of players that we now possess. He deserves to be given a chance in our new look team. How Murphy is ahead of him at the moment I will never know.
