John Robertson, Kenny Burns and Tony Woodcock hold aloft the League Cup after Nottingham Forest had beaten Liverpool 1-0 in a replay at Old Trafford in 1978.
One of the players who was at the club before Brian Clough arrived, Tony had spent time out on loan at Lincoln and Doncaster and a couple of years later he was part of the Nottingham Forest team that won the European Cup.
In 1985 Stuart Pearce was brought to Nottingham Forest by manager Brian Clough. Pearce was the makeweight in a £300,000 deal that saw Coventry centre-back Ian Butterworth move to Forest. Indeed, so unsure was Pearce of his footballing future that, after the transfer, he actually advertised his services as an electrician in Forest's match-day programme!
He need not have worried. Turned into an absolute legend.
Garry Birtles who was signed by Nottingham Forest from non-league Long Eaton United for just £2,000 and went on to win two European Cups and 3 England caps. Great story.
