Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020?
Given we have two potentially competent right backs, Cash does seem the obvious one to sell of offered big money again. Imagine we'll try and get away without though. Hope we get some offers for one of the kids

Pure guess but I would expect Wassy’s figure above is pretty close, we will have to sell to buy if we dont go up but wont mean a fire sale. Think we would cash in (literally Cash in) on one player, hope we invest it wisely if that happens.

If we did have to cash in on cash, then I would be hoping Darikwa makes a full recovery and gets up to speed close season, as I fear we would not do anything with Jenkinson at RB
Who's to say both Darikwa wont improve under some intense Sabri coaching? He gets up and down the pitch, which is a must for a modern full back.

That was basically the point i was trying to make Pap

With Darikwa & Jenks injury history, I wouldn't want to be relying on either for next season tbh.

Cash though is 1 of a few players that make me want to watch and follow and support Forest, he's been here a while, there is a connection to Stuart Pearce was team mates with his Dad, hence why i was pretty sure Pearce was involved in his signing, who connects to the Cloughie days but also his Dad was here under Cloughie, petty to some but this sort of thing seems to make the players 'better' if they love the club, grown up here, roots back to the old days whatever.  Sort of the future as well if we got promoted, not a shining star but along with Worrall, Figs, Brice, Grabban, Ribs, Lolley, Watson that could all help keep us in the PL with a few more (very elusive) quality signings.

Difficult but 1 thing that seems to make players 'good' is that they become confident and play with authority, still make mistakes but like Cash's goal against WBA, pure determination and fight.

Sort of why the first 11 picks itself really, they all play with a big chunk of authority and don't disappear if they balls up but keep going and prepared to go for pure blood and guts to get something if neccessary.

The pure passion is something money can't buy but i think like Alf suggested, having Stuart Pearce involved maybe in recruitment would be a good thing, i really think we should embrace our heritage while we can because legends are very few and far between the last 20 years.

This club isn't ever going to pursue the transparency philosophy but someone to communicate a bit more about what is going on also would be good, i don't see why, if the club reigns in the spending because of FFP they don't just say so instead of spouting about ambition sporadically in very short interviews often 1000's of miles away once every 10 months.

Aye. I don't get why we don't at least give it a go.

Folk say "you get some players right, others you don't". Well let's put it into rough figures.

The current recruitment team has signed around 20 players. We all have our own opinions of them, but out of those 20 who's fetching interest from other clubs? Who's gonna net us 5-15m?

None of them. It's OK saying "you get some players right, others you don't" but what you DO need to do is make sure the ones which you do get right cover the costs of the ones you don't to a large degree.

Pearce may have signed some duds, but did any of them make even a dent in the 15m profit we made from Antonio & Britt? No. If you took Pearce's signings overall we invested, got a shed load of goals for that investment, and then coined it in at a big profit. The man's got contacts all over, who work with some of the hottest British talent each day.

Compare that to the 20 signings this past year, where we'll be lucky to break even.

Add the feel good factor Psycho brings with him, and to me it's an absolute no brainer. Add him to the team.

Pearce was a great player - an absolute Garibaldi legend. Of that no doubt.
As a coach / manager - a disaster!
Let’s move on.

PS and his contacts I venture to suggest are no longer relevant. The game has moved on even from his time.

Adding Pearce to a team to work along side Anigo and under Modesto. What could possibly go wrong.?

It just wouldn't work.

Not really a good comparison as the majority of the players signed have either been sold for small profits, released or still in the team therefore cant gauge their market value.

Playing the game though I reckon:

Samba - 10m
Ribeiro - 8m
Silva - 5m
Ameobi - 3m
Grabban - 8m
Lolley - 15m
Sow - 8m
Carvalho - 5m?!

Completely random numbers based on a heavily inflated market but I'd say these players all have decent sell on value.

Not going to happen.  The 'feel good' factor didn't last 'that long' with Pearce.  Half the fans forgot quite quickly forgot what a legend he was when the results didn't go 'their' way.

It didn't save MoN either (who to me, now, was a clear temporary appointment whilst another man was lined up...ergo the short contract...) who, like Pearce, is abrasively old school enough not to be a 'yes' man.  Neither fit the current culture of the culture of 'now.'

The current recruitment have £20 million of business done in the last year which eclipse the business Pearce did.  They're clearly flipping players to some degree.  That suggests they do know what they are doing.  Clubs nor Pearce are going to have £15 million from two players 'all' the time.  Take away those couple and as Jean noted, Pearce's recruitment was unremarkable.  (It must have been unremarkable because Forest sank like a stone after a 'good' start (a start they were always 'wobbly' and not all that convincing in.)

Forest fans have to separate the romance of the past from the reality of the present.  At least when it comes to ex players.  If they fit the culture, fine.  eg.  Cohen.  But note, he's ever the diplomat.  MON and Pearce certainly weren't.  Nor stubborn characters like Warburton.  Or 'dramatic' characters like Aitor.

Continental culture.  From the boss, to recruitment to the Coach.  That's were it's at right now.

Forest 'gave it a go' with Pearce.  It didn't work out because 'half' the fans started moaning as Forest plummeted to mid-table...just as 'half the fans' moaned that MoN had Forest slightly 'above' mid-table (despite no pre-season or Summer transfer window...) using players that weren't his for the most part.

The fans would be moaning if Forest would be mid-table under 'The Coach.'  There are melt downs because of an away draw with Boro.  And to be frank, I don't think the football is that dissimilar between Pearce, MoN or The Coach.  Perhaps the latter is nominally better in some ways but not in others but then he had a pre-season and a Summer transfer window.  Not coming in half way through a season to pick up the pieces of a another man's drama.

It's culture.  And Pearce doesn't fit it.  Nobody is going to tell Marinakis 'how it is.'  MoN tried that and ended up out of a job.

In my experience of 'upper management' as soon as you say the word 'no' or have a 'difference of opinion' you're a marked man.

Or you're going to be 'out' or leaving 'real' soon.

That would explain why Pearce and MoN left in my view.

Current recruitment have Forest in a consistently higher place than 'mid-table' Pearce because...?

They brought in better technical players who are taller and more powerful on average.

Amoebi. Samba. Sow. That's made a big difference to the squad and 1st team. Rib and Silva. May not be the tallest but they have skill. Better than the players they replaced. Silva is a better Championship player than Car'.

Take away Sow's performances this season and Forest would be languishing about mid-table or slightly higher. Despite the much lauded performances from Cash or Watson.

Sow is pivotal. And recruitment found him. And Samba. Two lynchpins of the spine of the 1st team.

Recruitment also know how and when to turn or flip a profit on the player because they are privy to the total picture of club finances, wages turnover, performances on the pitch, 'performances' off the pitch.

I feel more than confident to trust them as their recruitment has Forest sitting 4th. And that recruitment includes the current 'Coach.'

Is Pearce scouting/recruiting for any club right now? Out of curiosity?

That's a good example.  It looks like recruitment know what they're doing..?  I don't remember Pearce getting 'that many' right.  And he had his 'chance.'

To get 8 players over two seasons that are worth £62 million is outstanding work.
