I think some are missing the point. We are now in The Champipnship so we have a Championship squad. When/If we get promoted huge investment will be made to build a squad to be competitive in The PL.

GariB, I love your optimism but I think of our current squad only 5 or possibly 6 if I include Watson (if he was able to find another year of his current form) of our squad could compete in the Premier. That's ok if the ambition is matched by performance in the transfer market - I struggle to be optimistic about that because there have been few signs of it so far.  My 5 would be the back 4 and our talismanic keeper.

I agree, Samba and the back 4 would get me vote as well. I would also include Sow, Lolley and Grabban. If McGoldrick and Sharp can survive in the PL then Grabban can most definitely do it as well. But of course Forest would need to recruit some real talent.

For half of our team to be able to cope in the Premiership, the other half must be of top quality, the level of knocking on the door of national teams, second tier at least ( countries like Holland, Sweden, Serbia etc)

Sow wouldn't cut it in the Prem IMO. He's a bustler who works in the Champ, but would be drawn into way too many foulds at a higher level.

Grabs has failed to cut it i nthe Prem when younger too, so not sure he would either. Although you do make a great point about Sharp & McGoldrick, so maybe management & playing partnerships is the key there.

For me players I'd have as potenial Prem players from this squad are Samba, Cash, Worrall, & possibly Lolley. Ameobi would still make a nice wildcard option from the bench. Yuri I'm 50/50 on. He does well at this level, but compared to Cash he's some way behind.

On the other hand there is a high chance we could do as good as what Wolves and Sheffield United have done.

Getting promoted and relegated the following season would be much better than yet another season in the Championship. Not least because of the huge positive impact on our finances.

The pessimists will find anything to worry or complain about, but as DM says, there’s every chance we could hold our own in the Premier League.

Having a flirt with the automatic promotion places spoilt some of us. It sent the expectation levels soaring. Now some fans are expecting too much and are grumbling although we are in a play off place. i was under the impression we were well within FFP, running at a profit over the last 12 months on transfers and view the high position in the table as an awesome opportunity for a serious promotion push and thought the owner would be wanting to get a few reinforcements in to get us over the line.  Hopefully it all works out as an awesome masterstroke but more likely a so near yet so far moment.  Maybe the owner just has far less money and far more intellectual insight than we can comprehend and will go down alongside Robin Hood and Cloughie in Nottingham folklore?

What im saying Sniff is that the club weren't prepared to gamble in Jan and go for it so there's a chance they might not gamble when promoted. FFP rolls over even if promoted. The income is greater but so are the costs. Villa spend over 100mill last summer and will have massive issues in the championshio next year as the one year allowance being in the prem club is only 35m.

If we get promoted we will have scraped up and we'd need 5 players to just be competitive with the lower half of the prem. Easily 25million worth of players required imo.

I was just looking at points taken from the last twelve matches.

Fulham who are third have taken 22 points from their last twelve games.

Preston who are sixth have taken 19 in the same period.

We have taken 22 in the twelve matches, despite a very poor February.

Maybe 18/19 won’t be enough.
