I agree he should be playing in the u23s to keep him match sharp. It's strange that isn't happening and he's not in the match squad either.
As for Charlton, Forest were pushed around with half their 1st team out. I think Joao would just have got mowed over. 'On his day.' He doesn't have enough of those. This is the 3rd manager he's been relegated to watching duty. Bought before the current football hierarchy was in place and up to speed with what the championship requires.
Car' isn't robust enough. He pulls out of tackles or doesn't track back then you're not a Championship ready player. It might well be in his head. But in the mean time, Forest payed a lot of money for a player who isn't assisting or scoring goals. And it's not because he hasn't been given a chance. He may have more talent. But football isn't just about talent.
Forest being a counter attacking side is what they are. The are conditional pressing as a side. If the 1st eleven are fit. It works well. If they aren't fit? See: Charlton. Car' is one of those players who isn't up for the fight. He's drowning. What we really needed was Lee Tomlin. Who can at least muck and nettles it with the rest of the team. And would have cost a fraction of Car's fee. But perhaps his wages would have been too steep.
Car's future at Forest. Seems bleak. I hope that come May he'll have banged in more goals and given more assets and stamps his match winning authority on the Championship.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if that happens.
Sow typifies what you need in this league. So does Lee Tomlin as an ACM type. I don't see those 'robust' qualities in Car'. To me? He's a lightweight. Messi is a small player. Just because you're a small player doesn't mean you can't mix it.
'Get in there. That's what I pay you for.' Brian Clough. It would be interesting to see what the great man could have done with Car'.
The Coach, himself, wants to keep Car'....knowing full well that there is talent to mine and tap. But how to do this?
We're talking about the Coach that brought the vilified Watson to a redemption story...and performing beyond his years.
So. There's still hope. Maybe when the weather gets better...
