Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020?
For me the mistakes have been the players we haven't signed or positions we haven't filled. Only going into the season with two strikers was baffling and we've been lucky grabban has been fit all season.

No backup for Sow in this window, could well be a similarly big error. I'm willing to commit to Diakhaby being useless now. I reckon he had a pass success rate of 0% for about 10 mins today.

Maintain summer we did really well on a small budget and this window we didnt sell Cash which was a positive

I agree Wassy, I know you said summer recruitment was excellent and I also agree that we have 5 definite successes but there in lies the frustration that we have in total had 15 new players come in since the summer. 5 have proven to be good ( all on low budget too) I wont judge Bong and Da Costa yet but that leaves 8 which have been a failure.
We know our first team is good enough but we are paper thin going in to the finish line which is exactly where you need a strong squad. Had our recruitment been less wasteful we wouldnt be as stretched as we are now and be in with a much better chance IMO. We have such a good chance now, a great core squad, best manger for years, just worried we dont have quite enough to finish the job.

You're including loans though which are obviously going to have a lower hit rate hence them leaving on loan.

Also, you could argue Chema was a success, made a profit and was useful as a backup LB. Even Jenkinson who admittedly looks rubbish, cant be judged too harshly as Cash has done so well he's not threatened the team.

I feel like people are asking for too much, expecting to sign essentially a full team of championship promotion winners on a limited budget. If I was offered 5/6 permanent signings to be a success in the summer would've snapped their hands off! It's easy to criticise given how close we are but I cant imagine there's any club sat there thinking they've signed 15 players and all have been great.

Jan business doesn't look great so far although at least they did recall Tyler. Maybe Da Costa will get fit and smash the winner in the playoffs!

No excusing that one.  They had all Summer.  Like all the other clubs.  If Grabban had got injured we'd be mid-table.

And they had plenty of time to plot the correlation between Sow and Forest's success this season to, if it was only one signing in January to make, make sure they had that if the wheels came off Sow and Forest then they'd have something in reserve.

It may be indicative of where Forest are re: wages turnover and a club in financial transition.  But we 'unearthed' Sow for relatively little coin I'm surprised the same ingenuity wasn't applied to give us a bit of insurance.

Still, it's not like the rest of the top 6's transfer business blew everyone away.  Perhaps FFP is coming down the track.  And that's the new reality.

Big picture.  We drew with WBA and should have beaten them by all accounts.  We beat Leeds.  We beat Brentford.  We've beaten Fulham this season.  What other club has done this?

I hope these are not pyrrhic victories come the end of the season.

We're so...frustratingly close.  We've still got a chance of going up.  But we must keep Sow and Grabban fit.  And if we don't it's been solid progress with a sound foundation to bring in the ACM, DCM and another quality striker in the Summer.

We brought in Sow and Samba over the Summer and Rib'...and Silva. Most clubs would have taken that. Four quality players. Sow and Samba have been 'next level.' We just need another couple of next level players at ACM and the Striker dept'. (And cover for Sow.)

SA.

Who backs up Cash? Jenks. Not good enough - signed for 2m

Who backs up Ribero? Bong. Folk will say it's early days but he's unfit & we've only 13 games to get him fit. Not good enough.

Who backs up Watson? Bostock. A million miles behind the pace. Not good enough.

Who backs up Sow? Semedo. Nowhere near good enough. Yates is still too green too.

Who backs up Samba? Muric. Hahahaha. Awful.

Who backs up Silva? No one. Lolley at the mo. Carvalho just doesn't work there. It could be argued if Silva is good enough anyway.

Who backs up Ameobi? Adama and previously Adomah. Neither good enough IMO, fair play if you say "early days" with Adama.

Who backs up Grabs? Da Costa. Couldn't make the squad against WBA, Walker - who should be 3rd choice backup - ahead of him.

Who backs up Lolley? Ameobi.

There's only CB we have covered properly really.

Our first team is great, fair play to the odd signing which recruitment have made that contribute there. But look down that list at those backup signings. Barely any of them are good enough, and the current setup has signed almost every one of them.

Secretly, Amobi is becoming one of my favourite players. His skill is outrageous. The way he brings down a long pass out of the air is class. Free transfer, 1 year contract. I would say he has been a brilliant signing.

He would be exactly the same in any league he plays in too. I think he is great!

i was thinking similar during the game, alot of the game now is just purely about the result, but watching Sammy is very entertaining, he does have some amazing tricks

So, even though he had a great game at Fulham away, and was perfectly reasonable at Charlton away and Preston at Home, Jenkinson is not good enough on the back of one bad game at Charlton at Home.

Words fail me!

Our memories are very different! I'd give Jenkinson reasonable for Fulham and poor at Charlton and vs Preston.

You can give Jenkinson what you like; that's entirely your prerogative.

I was at all four games and would respectfully disagree.

Besides that, writing someone off after 4 games is beyond stupid; we have had plenty of players over the years who have started slowly and gone on to be good players for us.

Da Costa is now being written off because he could not make the bench today; a bit surprising really considering he went off injured after 29 minutes of yesterdays U23 game.

Yep. Top player. The outrage on here when people thought we were giving him a long term deal!
