Would You Trust Recruitment With Summer 2020?

That's mostly down to the academy products, manager, & signings like Grabban & Lolley who were here before they arrived.

We made the 95 UEFA cup qurter finals against Munich with Jason Lee & Paul McGregor playing. Didn't make either good enough for what our goals were. Recruitment are very much the Lee/McGregor of this Forest era, and the weak link in what's otherwise a strong foundation.

I voted "sack", but would still consider them being managed by a more savvy manager ala Pearce.

IMO they've signed far more rubbish than quality. How many players have they signed in total, and how many would get into other top 6 sides?

Absolute legend as a player - no one will question that.
But an unmitigated disaster since.

Not my thread TPL.

I can remove it if Alf who started the thread agrees.

Oh I see. So we are a 4 man team?

Cash, Worrall, Lolley and Grabban.

Amazing how we have racked up so many points with only 4 players.

Who ever recommended Diakhaby and Da Costa needs to face a firing squad

A lot of people knew these was garbage and now it's being proven

Diakhaby all pace and nothing else, how the hell he is labelled a footballer is beyond me
Da Costa was on the pitch for 25 mins last night and must be the only player to have picked up more bookings than touches of the ball, and the club paid £1.6m what a joke

Sorry what were you expecting him to do in that 25 mins? Maybe score a 30 yard volley or run through the entire team? No way you can write him off after 25 mins, personally thought he looked like he could be decent. Liked him touch and movement, should've come on earlier IMO.

Diakhaby however I'm willing to write off...
I expected him to at least touch the ball and even look hungry for it. Da Costa aint decent and if Grabban is out for a while and this is the fall back then forget about promotion. If i was to rate Da Costa performance last night, i would of gave him a 2 and that would of been just for turning up.

I think the signings that were brought in the January transfer window were made in desperation because the big man didn't want to spend too much money, they are not the problem, that lies with the recruitment team and the owner, they have been found wanting in this particular window and I don't trust them to deliver the goods that we desperately need in the summer.....which is quality, not desperation and cheapness.

Wrong.

The manager didn't want to upset the squad who had taken us into the play offs and he didn't want to disrupt the excellent team spirit. The manager got what he wanted. A pacey winger and a couple of strikers.

Can I vote that I need more than one game to judge the new players?

Of the current signings made:

Samba - huge success
Sow - huge success
Silva - hit and miss, good at pressing, was still cheap and potential to improve
Mir - best forgotten
Muric - cant believe he's still here, at least the error was rectified
Jenkinson - Panic signing, maybe the worst in terms of money spent. Got lucky with Cash
Ribeiro - got better as the season has gone on, I would say a success
Semedo - looking like a miss
Adomah - gone already so clearly a miss but contributed a few times early on

Cant think of anyone else, seems like a decent summer window overall although the lack of backup to grabban was foolish. Clearly working within a fairly tight budget these last few windows sadly though

Last Jan's signings were mostly misses too.

Out of around 20 players, only a few are up to it, and they all come with their own issues such as fitness.

I think we need to be really careful, or we'll blow a lot of money on players who will continue to bog the club down.

Actually, we pretty much are. Last night showed you what happens if you take any of those key players out.

That is pretty fair and I would say overall our recruitment is hit and miss - just like every other team in the Championship.

What about Ameobi - cost us nothing and sometimes looks ungainly but contributes and is IMO a decent signing and definitely value for money.

Yes great shout, another hit IMO. So with a clearly limited budget I would say the summer window was overall a success. Only mistake was not signing another striker.

I think the frustration of many is that we're not spending more to increase the chance of success as opposed to the actual results when taken in context. However with FFP we cannot afford this, we make massive losses each year and can only fund this via net player sales. Our income is very midtable and wages are still top 10 so inevitable. Without parachute payments this is the reality.
