Reds v Weeds
After the dust has settled......

He said in his press conference that he will never give up, and will take the decisions to improve things.

Well Marcelo will have to change his cat-like habits then because the system is clearly not working, doesn't help his cause continuously polishing turds. We'd be halfway down the league under another coach/manager.

And what decisions are they? Picking Casilla who keeps dropping bollock after bollock? Or Bamford, who I'd think would like to be dropped. It's the hope that kills you, Bielsa gave me that, but he now started to make me resent him for it because he can't sort it out.

Bamford header after 28 mins I think. Looked like he was heading a house brick

This from a Forest fan I have a lot of respect for, posting on waccoe. Responding to "I bet your smug today"

Funny as all the Forest fans around me think they have won the world cup.....

Worst performance of the season

Positives:

Ayling even though he was playing CB, led us more than our current captain
Klich
Augustin's debut
Shackleton back
Kalvin back for the Brentford game
Positional changes required on Tuesday night.

Negatives:

One on target, Samba makes one save
13 shots off target
70% possession......for what?
Gifting goals like Santa Claus.
We are so predictable.
Every championship coach knows our next pass/move & weaknesses, we've been sussed out!
White is not a DM, looked out of his comfort zone.
Casilla beaten at his near post once again.
Alioski lucky not to be sent off the silly little tw*t, he is not a defender FFS.
Cooper's header, heads the ball as if he has a head like a 50p piece.
Was Bamford playing?
Costa a waste of space & money. Another dross signing from Orta.
Losing possession in dangerous areas, Pablo for the first, Jack for the 2nd goal.
Bielsa is polishing turds.
Our corners/crosses as bad as ever.
Casilla, Alioski, Costa, Bamford & Captain Chaos should be dropped.
Will Bielsa be ruthless enough? I doubt it
Appalling atmosphere, our fans have been numbed by our woeful displays. Never heard Forest fans so loud!

Ayling looks broken and lost.
This is where MB earns his money now, forget tactics and training, man management is needed.
Also i read we dont have a sports psychologist?
Thought it was pretty common these days? Maybe we need one.

Ayling sounds genuinely nervous, at least he came out of the game with credit
Bielsa & Ayling need to give some of those players a kick up the backside

Thats all folks, on to Charlton.....

i noticed on leeds forum there was a debate titled 'Plan B'

besides references to polishing turds and seemingly having heads shaped like 50p pieces ....

personally they are 2nd and a very good side and 'played well', though 30% and 3 points makes more sense

Yes hes immense. Just usually his passing is on point.

Forest v Charlton 11-2-20
Pre Match Comments.....

Football is a strange game that does throw up unexpected results. But truly anything other than a heavy defeat for Charlton on Tuesday will be a miracle.

Damage limitation is the best we can realistically hope for.
Forest could easily put 4 or 5 past us, and we cannot afford to lose half of our GD advantage over Wigan.

There will be big changes for this game and at least we now have a few options.

I expect to see Williams, Pearce, Purrington and maybe Cullen, go out.

We could look something like this;

Phillips

Lockyer Pratley Sarr

Matthews Davis Field Smith Doughty

Oztumer

Hemed

Strong bench; Taylor, Williams, Cullen, McGeady (if fit) Pearce, Purrington, Amos

If we play like we did yesterday- this will not be pleasant viewing and will not have a happy ending.
Saying that- we’re decent at the Valley on the whole so fingers crossed for a point against a very good Forest. 1-1

Reply: We're not at home by the way

Reply: Very good point lol! Scrap the draw then

Another defeat.

Wigan are at home against Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening.
It is quite likely that Charlton will be only 1 point above the relegation zone when the final whistles blow.

It is beginning to look like only Barnsley and Luton are weaker than us.

Prediction 4-0

Just realised Forest are 4th therefore we'll win. Remember, we always do well against the top teams!

Don’t usually do the aways, but I’m expecting to get to this one. While Forest are clearly favourites, anything can happen in a one-off game. There’s always hope. That’s why whatever we might think as fans, Lee Bowyer and his players will be treating each game the same and looking to win.

I know that not all forum members are believers in data and analytics, but those that are might find Infogol’s perspective interesting. This table can be edited to show the current League Table, the Table ranked by Expected Goals and then, finally, the predicted Final Table.

On average, we might expect the Final Table to be the same as the Expected Goals Table, albeit subject to potentially significant (unbiased) noise. On this basis we rank 23rd, i.e. above Luton, but below all the other relegation candidates. I think that’s probably about right.

The predicted Final Table is based on a simulation of all remaining fixtures using expected goals as the measure of relative strength, i.e. to set the odds for each match. In this table we are placed 21st, i.e. we just survive, because of the points we already have on the board. In other words, based on Infogol’s analysis, we ought to be relegated this season, but our good start might just save us.

However, because anything can happen in a one-off game these predictions are highly uncertain. We need to hope that the noise, or randomness in results, continues to work in our favour.

Turning to Tuesday’s match, Infogol’s ‘model’ reckons there is a 56% chance of a Forest win, a 24% chance of a draw and a 20% chance we’ll grab all three points. Interestingly, that’s slightly more favourable to us than the bookies’ odds imply. They reckon the probabilities are 61%, 23%, and 16%.

No way should we give up on tough away matches like this. Statistically, we’ll need to win at least one of them between now and the end of the season if we are going to survive.

Davis was shocking at Stoke, so should be nowhere near starting line-up.

Not sure who would score either.

If we started with that line up we would be handing the game on a platter to Forest!

I'd predict a 5 - 0 loss!

Bowyer has said Lyle is fine to start. I imagine Cullen would be as well (not mentioned though). Bonne and Mcgeady likely on the bench.

That's good. Let's hope Taylor can last the 90 mins and still be ok for Blackburn.

Aneke isn't playing for U23's in today's game.

I smell a visit from the goal fairies.
A good 2-0 away win.
A playoff push could still happen.

is this a serious post? Don’t get me wrong we could win- but a play off push??

Are people serious when mentioning play offs? Genuine question, not a dig. Just can't tell tone over a message.

I was serious about the play-offs back in August.

Charlton didn't used to be such a small-time, lower league mentality Club that mere survival in the bottom quarter of the Championship was something most of its fans would consider to be a success.

There is absolutely no way we are getting anywhere near the play-offs this season in the state we are currently in.
We just scraped a home win against Barnsley (where all the stats except goals suggest they battered us) and have been well beaten by Stoke - who have been crap all season.
If we made the top half of the table from here it would be a miracle.

Even supposed 'key' players coming back from injury has made little difference.
The team doesn't function anymore, since the young player who made it happen was recalled from his loan.
And for Lee Bowyer to say too many players were not at it last weekend? That's a real worry.
Maximum effort was all we had left - and it ought to be a given.

It snowing in nottingham so game not go ahead.

C'mon boys let's hope its after the lord mayors show for them and take it to them, failing that a smash and grab haha.

cheers Joe B, i think these 3 comments appeal the most to me, i'm seriously thinking that Bowyer might apply some season planning strategy and leave a few senior players at home for their next 2 winnable consecutive home games

Comments......

I have got a sneaky feeling that we will get something from this game.

Me too, think we're smoking the same stuff

Bowyer isn't the sharpest knife in the draw but f*ck me giving Hemed a start really is one f****d up decision.
His head has gone surely? Deserves the sack if we go down.

Wow:
Forest missing Grabban & Ameobi.
Apparently rested lots of players.
What an opportunity

Forest have rested five players!! Not sure why they have replaced them, they'd beat us with just the other six!!

Damn, our luck sucks. Can’t see us getting anything from this unfortunately.

Forest mocking us resting players lol

Only one Walker in the Forest line up tonight and that's Tyler Walker the son of Des Walker and that guy wearing the no.34 shirt is not him!!

Good start but need to stop giving away the ball under no pressure

GGGOOOAAAAALLLLLLL

Well we’ll well sarr is great and Lyle gets goal

We actually look good again tonight football ah

Looking so much better with two actual strikers on the pitch so far.

Be funny if we do win if that’s what people actually say... “was only their reserves..... blah blah...” as we’ve played half a season already with a team full of reserves and we still get pelters when we lost...

Great half. Made Forest look pretty ordinary so
far. Super cross from Naby for the goal.

It’s more disrespectful what you say against the team your supposed to support! If Forest chose that team and don’t get a result it’s their problem, we can only play against what’s put in front of us...

Massive half to come

So far so good. I’m not watching the game - can’t remember when I saw a win away when on Sky so I’m making the conscious effort not to tune in so as not to jinx things. So if we win I’ll take the credit

Forest coming on strong now.

Time slows when we're 1-0 up, I don't how the physics works but it's definitely true.

What a result!! Bowyer got it spot on. Would like to see Hemed and Taylor play together more often

That's it all over get f*cking in!

What a result! Great performance!

Lamouchi - what a w*nker. Thought the team he
put out would turn us over comfortably. He’s
gonna get some S**t now. Memorable night

Well I never saw that coming.

Not only an away win but a deserved away win, a clean sheet and a good performance.
Well done Lee Bowyer and the team.

During this last week I was feeling for the first time that Charlton were more likely than not to be relegated.
Fortunately I was 100% wrong to feel that way.
This result tonight has convinced me that the Addicks will still be playing Championship football next season.

They need just 12 points now from their remaining 14 games to be pretty sure of staying up, and I'm now confident that at least 4 of those points will be gained against Blackburn and Luton.

Tonight is a turning point. Bowyer and the lads have just saved their season.

Lolley couldn't cross to save his life

Cant afford to be without your best players in this league as we've found for most of the season, massive f*ck up from the forest manager.

Sarr, Matthews and Phillips where all superb. Well impressed with how organised we looked throughout. No real desperate stuff and made Forest look ordinary. If Sarr can get a run in the side and get his confidence up he could be a real asset.

Glad we won tonight especially since we were unfortunate to only get a draw with them at the Valley in August after playing them off the park in an amazing first half

Same here. Didn't fancy us against Stoke for some reason, but I think the Stoke game made Forest take us lightly.

If they were playing "anyone decent" they'd have lost 4 or 5 - 0. Not just their manager who is an arrogant t**t.

Haha. Love it..

Fantastic result last night. Very solid performance. I’ve always liked the 5-3-2 (3-5-2) system and I think it suits our players. It makes such a difference having two up front and I thought Tomer Hemed made a big difference last night, especially in the first half. It was a classic winning-away performance. Deal with the early pressure, avoid conceding early, score a goal on the counter, change the momentum and stop the home side from getting any rhythm. The players worked their socks off, as they always do.

The winning goal was a classic. Interception by Sarr. A wonderful Kevin de Bruyne style cross, from a deep area, and a superb, clinical finish by Lyle Taylor. That seemed to hit Forest hard. Up to that point, though they hadn’t really threatened, they looked to be controlling the game and were creating space in wide areas. The occasional, and inevitable, scare or two aside, we then shut them out fairly effectively. Even when we went more defensive towards the end of the ninety minutes, Forest were never able to conjure any sustained pressure.

It’s hard and perhaps unfair to single out any players in particular, but Adam Matthews looked a very accomplished right back. Cullen and Davis worked hard at the base of midfield, making it difficult for Forest to get any control. Oztumer showed some lovely touches, though without really hurting Forest. Hemed did well, while Taylor ran himself into the ground. McGeady showed some nice touches when he came on and Purrington did well too. Matt Smith looked a bit lightweight to me, but it was the briefest of cameos.

Perhaps we deserve some credit for the fact Forest were a bit lacklustre. Alternatively, it’s also possible they missed the key players they had out of the side. It was certainly a bonus for us that Lewis Grabban was absent. Even the home crowd seemed flat, though again we may have contributed to that.

Be interesting to see who starts on Saturday. Be nice to see the same starting XI, though I suspect either Williams or McGeady will get the nod over Oztumer. Purrington may also start.

We may now need as few as nine more points to ensure survival. Fourteen should certainly do it. That target is now achievable. Saturday will be another very tough game though. Blackburn will start as favourites.

Was at the Stoke and Forest games sat amongst home supporters. The Forest lot were giving their team some robust 'feedback', not any of it complimentary, especially when their goalie gave us the ball from four consecutive goal kicks / throw outs.
It was like watching a different team at Forest. A splendid performance all round, with subs on just at the right moment.
Missed out on Lyle's shirt by a whisker when it was caught by the chap standing next to me.
