Brentford v Forest Tuesday 28 January 2020 7:45pm
Pre Match Comments Really looking forward to this one. Having dispatched the neighbours and Huddersfield (touch wood) I’m confident this will be the game where anyone that wasn’t paying attention suddenly realises that we are a real threat that isn’t going away. Apart from us being the far superior side also in our favour Forest have to play on the Sunday (Luton H) and Wednesday (Reading H) in the preceding week where as we have a full weeks rest having played on Saturday. Uncanny the way the cards are falling into place. Read ‘em and weep QPHa. You know this game has now been postponed, right? What with us still being in the fa cup. Think you'll find that it's going to be moved! As others have said this will be moved mate. So I am going to have to change the thread title so as not to mislead people. Will try and remember to change it when the new date is known. Of course, Sorry. Just delete the thread if you like nocoat. Getting a tad over excited. Last time I start a thread. Not that we should care but Notts is only applicable to County, not to Nottingham Forest. Brian Clough called em Nottingham County. It does sound better. Forgot about cup brought tickets for forest doh, will tickets still valid for game when played or do we use for cup tie On the official Facebook page: Due to our participation in the Fourth Round of The Emirates FA Cup our match with Nottingham Forest at Griffin Park will now be played on Tuesday 28 January in a 7.45pm kick-off. Please feel free to "It's all your fault" me as mush as you like. Good. All sorted now those circles are squared... What about the game? Will ‘catweasel’ Grabban return once more to bite us in the proverbial? I know we have sung it for years but the Hey Jude just before the teams came out on Saturday was awesome and must have lifted the players. As a pre match moment it could be so much more effective than their poxy Mull of Kintyre so I hope the ground is full by 7.35 for this one and they get 'our' song both barrels Forest. WBA. Leeds all at home under lights. If that doesn't get your juices going then you're probably beyond help. There's only one of those I'm not quite so excited about, and that's Forest. They'll be like Huddersfield and Millwall in terms of organisation and spoiling, only with a bit more quality going forward. Attritional. Could be frustrating. Hope not, obviously. Leeds and West Brom will be football matches. Good point , it’s a very costly trip at the wrong time but I do not want to miss it It will be a ghastly game with Forest spoiling it, breaking up play, fouling in turn and time wasting from the first minute and Watson moaning and bending the ear of the referee. They really are a horrible team. FFS. It will be a fantastic game. One of the best ever under lights at GP. Get down there and enjoy it! Massive game It has been declared massive by Voice, and that’s good enough for me!! such a big game my boss is letting me have half day " on the house Result. Will you take it before or after the match? Derby fan? Probably the most important game at Griffin Park since the play-off first leg against Middlesborough. Massive game against former European champions don’t you know.. Yes it is. SSN has Wet Spam bidding £12m for Matty Cash....(well, he is in London next week, and I think that’s how their recruitment works.) Could he not be available on Tuesday? Particularly if only Lolley is speaking to him..... Well, FA Cup cleared off the decks and on to the next game. Today's selection left little doubt as to the team on Tuesday, so let's hope they've all been training well and we can add another win to our home run. Rather oddly, it seems some of their fans think that being above us in the table at this moment means they deserve to win it. I guess they'll come and sit deep, spoil the game and to try to catch us on the break. An early goal is needed to open them up. Continued.... Could really do with Pontus for this one, as much for getting in the ref's ear early on to highlight their inevitable shithousery from the off as anything else. Need the other 'leaders' in our team, and the crowd, to do the same, to make sure we don't just get the normal "finger wagging", and no proper punishment, in the first half. Any idea who ref is yet? Hopefully a strong one...... Brentford v Nottingham Forest TIM ROBINSON Ian Cooper and Graham Kane Fourth Official : Keith Stroud Thanks. Ex NOTTINGHAMSHIRE and England opener?? Surely a bit unfair??!! Any idea what our previous with him has been? Not too great!

Brentford v Reds
Comments during & Post Match... Tim Robinson reffed the Charlton game. Expect loads of stoppages for head injuries Oh dear! A ref who can’t see when he’s being mugged off by extreme gamesmanship, which we know Forest are no strangers to So very important to get a result tomorrow. It is more important tomorrow than Saturrday as we're playing a direct rival. Sorry for stating the bleeding obvious I dont know whether im nervous or excited! Must win here, will take us to 3rd and with any luck Leeds/West Brom will continue their poor form. I keep telling myself a win is just 3 more points and if we lose there are lots of games to go but somehow it does not feel like that. I am nervous but hopeful. Early goal crucial to unpark the arboreal double decker. If not I fear a scrappy 90 mins. This. Could be the opposite of a classic otherwise. Sorry for negativity (not usually me, I think) but quite apprehensive about this one. We definitely need the first goal. Don’t care if it’s the worst match I’ve ever seen as long as we win! Obviously, a massive 3 points at stake here. Forest has quite surprised me this season to be honest, pegged them to be mid table at best. With that being said, they are playing very well this season and we have to come out all guns blazing to get the result. Would give anything to be there, but I know the support will be in full voice for the boys.Let's get it done. I'll be drinking some good beer and screaming at my computer at the top of my lungs Statistically they are mid table at best. No scapegoating individuals tonight! Apart from Reya (who didn't really have that much to do), I'm sure the players themselves will admit every single one was below the level they expect from themselves. A lot of similarities with other games this season. Huddersfield (H), and Milwall (A) in particular. .....it ain't rocket science...we don't like it up us Corporal Jones. Another 1-0 defeat. Forest were lucky of course but they’re an awkward team to play for a reason, they manage the game superbly and have a very sturdy defensive framework. Weren’t much of a threat going forward but they didn’t need to be. Sadly I don’t think we did enough; performance was okay but Jeanvier, Dasilva and Watkins off-colour, crowd tempered by an early goal and not enough impact off the bench to change the game when they were frustrating us. If we are seriously aiming for top two then that’s a massive dent to our chances. In what way were they lucky? What was going on in the front of the Paddock in second half ?? At least two people ejected Bad day at the office, Onwards and upwards. They were lucky only in as much as we cannot compete with their type of “football”. Continued.... Started like we were really on it and caused them a load of problems. Then we failed to close down their man on the edge of the box when Raya punched a corner out. Big deflection and 1-0 Forest. Game over. We lost our heads, got totally rattled by their 'game management' (they were time wasting from the 9th minute). No-one really had a decent game. Frank got his tactics way wrong. We went far too long far too often and lacked any composure when in good positions. Had Watkins played the obvious ball to Said to put him clear we may well have got back into it but it was symptomatic of our general play today that he instead turned back into danger and ended up dragging a shot wide. If Norgaard had got a toe on Mbuemo's cross it would have gone in but that was the last decent ball we put in until Marcondes came on far too late in the second half. Frank's reluctance to change things when it was clear it wasn't working from the 50th minute was incredibly frustrating. No confidence in the options on the bench or just hoping something would come off? DaSilva had an absolute stinker but most of our attacking players had a major off day and we seemed generally panicky in possession. Occasion too much for them? Can't stand teams like Forest but it's been bloody effective against us for a long, long time and we still can't seem to find a way to deal with it. Our plan of going long like against QPR didn't look like it was ever going to work but we didn't seem to have any idea of what else to do. Massively disappointing and feels very much like the games against Middlesbrough under Warbs. If I had a cat it would be duly kicked... In addition, Forest should have had a stone wall pen in the 2nd half. Can't say we deserved anything from that today. If youre talking about pinnock vs grabban it was nowhere near stone wall. grabban was looking for it all day long grappling with pinnock forced himself infront and then threw himself over We didn't deserve to lose but we didn't deserve to win either. Everybody off the boil and they got lucky with a deflection. But their performance was probably the most cynical I have seen this season. I would be ashamed if we behaved like that. We never looked like scoring but neither did they. Having a few basketball players helped them. ....but there are Bees fans out there who are prepared to win whilst playing that way........... Rico Henry was class, that’s about it. All were S**t and off their game, I’m sure they know that and want to rectify it though. Frank very slow on the substitutions, disappointing day for everyone imo Well their goal was pretty fortunate and came at a perfect time for them. ....what perfect time???????.............just before half time????????................ Also, I wish Sir Peter hadn’t made all the comments re time wasting. I know his heart is in the right place, but it makes us look a bit daft. Just misfiring at bit going forward at the moment - it happens. We needed a bit of luck to scrape out a 1-1 but it never looked like coming. Said is trying to hard and his tricks are only coming off about 1/10 times. Our crossing was pretty abysmal all night, not clear the first man or clearing everyone! Might be the moment to mix things up a bit, give Zamburek a start and rest JDS. But, a less good run was bound to come. We just need to grind out a couple of results and hope the fizz returns ready for the last third. Forest...as reported beforehand...proved to be the roughy toughy team our players with their finesse and silky skills don't like to play......Forest really weren't all that at all....we simply don't know how to compete and then beat teams of their ilk. Rico Henry was class, that’s about it. All were S**t and off their game, I’m sure they know that and want to rectify it though. Frank very slow on the substitutions, disappointing day for everyone imo Dealt with the freak who was 3ft taller than him very well considering that was their goto tactic throughout the game More...... Hated tonight from the 1st til the last mintue, Ealing Road was full of dickheads who were there as tourists, bring on Lionel Road!!!! Cos there won't be tourists there no, not standing at the top of the west stand....hopefully they will be as far away as possible!!! When the game ended today there was acres of space were I was standing as a group of at least 15-20 decided to leave 20 minutes early. Nothing against attracting new fans but they can sit else where next year and not bother real fans...Its only going to get worse with each passing gamne with people seeking that Ealing Terrace experience before it ends. I hope the club can prevent this from happening as much as they possibly can to ensure our last few games are attended by real fans. Couldnt really see the goal from ER very well, just seen it back on sky. How unlucky can we be to concede that? As rasmus likes to say, the league table ALWAYS lies, and moments like that are why. Not saying we deserved to win, we wernt great but thats a shocker of a deflection We do struggle against these type teams. Saying that I thought we were off it tonight, bit like at their place tbf. Top six still very much on though, top 2 probably a no. Just one of those nights. Why one of their best players was allowed so much time on the edge of our box is baffling. Once they were in front they were galvernised. Credit to Forest, their work out of possession was outstanding and we couldn’t stretch them. On to the next one. Forest got a lucky goal but we're organised and astute.. Fair play.. We lacked guile and quality at the end.. Norgaard missed a sitter... Lads kept fighting but I'm shocked TF didn't bring on Valencia and Halil for the last 20... We should have gone all out from it.... However with West Brom losing . 2nd place is still up for grabs.. 17 games left.. Lots of twists and turns remaining People above point out that we were all off our game. All off our game for a reason... we haven't yet found a formula for playing against these sides. Catch on... we're always off our game against these sides (Birmingham, Huddersfield, Nottingham, Millwall). This was pretty much the result that I feared (i.e. the one that some of us witnessed at the City Ground). Fluky deflected goal for them early on (fluky goal which might have been avoided had we been organised enough to have a player close enough to block rather than deflect). Sadly for us, this Forest side is the Boro team of our play-off season: organised and strong; defensively minded; cynical throughout (time wasting from the off, hard man midfielder in ref's ear throughout etc.); yet talented enough to carry a threat going forward (largely suppressed by the aforementioned stuff). Let's not get too down. It's just one game. Plenty of the season left to see this yet see-saw one way and the other. We'll end up in the top six, maybe even the top two. It's just a bit frustrating that we end up on the wrong side of these too often (no points from Forest, 1 point from Huddersfield). I thought Forest played well. Yes, they time wasted almost from the off and they were extremely ‘professional’ with their nasty little fouls. Of course they were lucky with the goal but credit where credit’s due. They were very tight defensively and when they came forward, they did so at speed. We, on the other hand were pretty lacklustre and our heads seemed to drop after the goal. Our corners and attempts at crossing were abysmal and we gave away possession far too often. Benrahma was off his game and should have been replaced with Dervisoglu. So, can’t really complain about the result. We lack strength in depth and maybe a quick foray into the transfer market would help. Having said that, not sure who’s out there who could do a job for us. Also what is it with attacking ER first half? Is this our choice or oppo? Opposition I would hope. Third time this season. First time: 7-0. Second time 3-1. I actually thought Forest might have blown it by doing this. Sadly not. Continued again.... Forest were a horrible team who cheat, waste time, but are good at match management. Allied to a weak referee, was the perfect recipe for a very frustrating evening. Lost count of the times their very vocal and excitable Manager went outside his box, but Stroud, as 4th, kept on having a laugh and joke about it to him. IMO should have got the ref to at least book him, for ignoring his 'chatty' warnings. I know it's with hindsight, but why was most of our 1st team playing tonight, rested on Saturday? Didn't seem to do them any good. They may well just have played the Foxes on Saturday, judging by their out of sorts performance tonight. As already mentioned JDS had a shocker, should have been hooked for Emiliano to come on much earlier than he did. When on the pitch Marcondes provided a bit of hope. TF and his team still have to work out how to beat teams like Forest, 'udders and the like. Let's hope they learn quickly as we've still got some like minded teams in the remaining matches. What was going on in the front of the Paddock in second half ?? At least two people ejected Witnessed it close enough but didn't hear what was said. A number a fans were giving Cash S**t during a throw-in (rightfully so, let's not make it easy on them) and one fan came over to them (I'm guessing to tell them to let Cash get in with the game, not give him an excuse to delay the game any further), the fans giving Cash abuse didn't take kindly to whatever the one fan had to say to them. Once security came over it turned into some handbags I think, nothing too serious, few arms swinging don't know if anything connected. A tough watch. Wasn't pretty but they were effective and also managed to get in Tim the ref's ear from the off. They looked delighted with their night's work but blatant gamesmanship and time wasting from early in the first half just seems wrong. How frustrating was that? I won't linger on any of the shitehousery we saw from Forest as it was obvious to all. We had the misfortune to play to two of Forest's strengths - defending a lead and scoring from attacking set piece (although they had a massive slice of luck). Then we saw a very well drilled and coached team perform to a gameplan which their "coach" would have loved. For our part things just weren't clicking today, decision making was at times poor and the ball just wouldn't drop right in their box. I was suprised that Marcondes was the only sub to come on as both Mbuemo and Benrahma looked very tired and it wasn't their day. Halil and Valencia may have added something different for Forest to think about. There number 21 - Sow was it? I was trying to work out where his talent as footballer was hiding or was his job literally to try and concuss Said in the first mintue than run around bundling into everyone give away numerous fouls and not get booked. If that sort of player and Forest's style of play does it for them then crack on, personally I think it's utter rubbish. Compare and contrast with their close neighbours Leceister City, a proper football team, and the game we had with them. To be honest I hope Forest don't get anywhere this season and implode financially On to Saturday and a reaction please!

Such a big game for us to have an off day, but whilst Forest are horrible to watch they were organised and set themselves up to nullify us and nick a goal, and that’s exactly what happened. My frustration was that we didn’t really change anything. By 65/70 minutes it was clear that cross after cross was being dealt with and Benrahma and Bryan weren’t having much joy. Forest had obviously studied us and for once we had the bench to change it, but didn’t. I’d have brought Halil on out wide, or even up top and pushed Ollie out wide... or even thrown two up top for the last ten, or Pinnock up there and go direct for the last five.... You hoped for real urgency from the players and fans in the last 10 minutes but it felt like we collectively knew we weren’t going to break them down. There will be many more twists and turns but I can’t help feeling tonight was a huge opportunity missed if we are to get into the top two, suddenly 7th looks close again with a tough run of games ahead. Put it right with a win on Saturday! Forest weren’t great and time wasted a lot but when ahead they didn’t really look like losing. Banked players back and if we are honest wanted it a bit more than us We moved the ball too slowly too often and when we did get a 3 on 3 cut back inside, allowing them to regroup with extra players Forests away system works because they have two out balls in Grabban and Ameobi (who RIco did pretty well against all things considered) We are a good footballing side but weren’t tonight for whatever reason. Jensens corner which went out for a throw was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen on a football pitch. Lack of subs was just odd tbh We need to bounce back on Saturday and get a point or more to stay in the pack. Plenty more games to play and our GD is still best in division Yeah wtf were we trying a short corner in first half injury time when we'd just fecked one up moments before??? Call me stupid but should we not have been getting it on the box to try and nick an equaliser before half time? Disappointing. I thought it right to rest players Saturday, but we do seem to take a while to get in game mode . I thought Forest executed their plan to a tee. I don't think they are as good as Borough were and will lose significant games to teams like themselves. We run out of ideas. It should have been a draw. Bryan seemed to completely miss two good chances. I think what spoils our game though is letting it get to us. If we hadn't have got frustrated and calmed down we may have got at least one back. We must learn from it. I think we are better against negative teams then we were, but the long pass and corners were bang average at best. We need those to cause problems against two buses. Teams will play this way more often than notat GP. At 1-0 a shot from JDS or Benrahma magic, may well have been enough. So not disappointed regarding subs, though JDS was having an off game. Plenty of time. Just got back. No excuses with yet another 0-1 defeat. We might as well have left the tactics on the dressing room wall for the guided tour because Forest did exactly what we were told they would do. Waste time, try and nick a goal, then defend it all game. Been here so many times and even if Forest has wasted another 20 mins, I didn't feel we'd score. However, booking a keeper for time wasting after about 20 mins must be some kind of record. Easy with hindsight, but resting our forwards did them no good. Surprised to see Benrahma in the line up. Nothing worked for him, Watkins was never in the game and for some reason (particularly the 2nd half) our midfield didn't seem to want to give Mbeumo the ball whenever he had tons of space by the NR touchline. Also, why on earth were we firing so many crosses in the air? Half of them didn't beat the first man and most of the others were effortlessly dealt with by their giants at the back. The only time we looked dangerous was firing the ball across the box with a bit of pace, but that didn't happen very often. Massively disappointed with that showing. I agree that Thomas didn't seem to want to mix it up. Only one sub? Had to be worth trying something, surely. And by the way, that's now seven consecutive halves of football we've gone without scoring since hammering QPR in the first half (which seems like ages ago). A real wasted chance, but we didn't deserve much from that game. I know their goal was a slice of luck, but so often we were late picking up the loose man - they looked more likely to score another than we did. OK. Come on then. I've asked this question a number of times in the past couple of months, and I don't remember anybody responding. It's all right saying this is wrong and that's wrong... and we're always doing this and forever that. And I know that Thomas is proactive and cerebral, and is probably way ahead of the rest of us, but (getting there finally) what should we do? What do you lot think we need to do to get past (I was going to say an "anti-footballing outfit", but this would probably be slightly harsh on Forest) let's say a disciplined, organised, defensively minded opponent. I have a few ideas up my sleeve. What do you all think? 'Cos this is clearly the remaining Achilles Heel. Had another striker to bring on and gone 3 at the back with 2 holding midfielders, two out wide and an AM behind Olli and said striker Congratulations to ER for making the ref book the goalie for time wasting. We knew it would happen and we were on to it.. But we also knew how the Tree people would play tactically. Moses couldn't part that defence so why try our usual intricate passing moves. Brentford did well against the offside trap only getting caught a couple of times. Thirteen shots only three on target for the Bees. I though Henry did well against Lurch. Do they make platform soles for football boots ? The stonewall penalty against Grabban wasn't. Grabban by name grab em by nature. I have no problem with PG calling out the officials about wasting time. We pay good money to watch football. But as has been said we could've played another 90 minutes and not scored.Maybe our players lack the skills or TF the ability to drastically change things during a game when our tactics are not working. We need to sign Robin Hood. I’d have swapped the two wingers early in the second half once it became clear that neither could get much change out of their fullbacks. Swapping sides may have allowed us to get in behind them and deliver crosses from much better positions.

Thanks for that JBL.
Makes the win even sweeter. I do question why not one of their fans recognises the foul on Grabban as a penalty. It looked nailed on to me. One comment that does bother me “I don't think they are as good as Borough were and will lose significant games to teams like themselves.”
29-01-2020, 08:42 AM
Lol 'Moses couldn't part that defence'.
29-01-2020, 09:43 AM
Glad to see they’re a grounded bunch then.
29-01-2020, 10:02 AM
What a bunch of arrogant pricks, they realky fo believe they are a footballing team. They hide behind having an off day to excuse their inability to create clear openings and move a organised side around sufficiently to cause problems. Yes we are organised but we are away from home in a key game, what else do they expect - they are Brentcelona!!!
As for cynical fouls, they need to watch the game again, they were as quilty but hey ho. 1-0 to the big team, a proper team, one that has won something. Rant over ? |
