Season 2019/20 Can We Finally Go Up?

I’ve decided to take a more laissez faire approach to the season.
Despite my all consuming approach to anything Forest I’m going to keep telling myself how enjoyable Sabri Lamouchi’s second Championship season could be.
How many points would we inevitably garner.
How much better would I feel on a Sunday morning looking at the league table.
How much more satisfying would it be to gain automatic promotion - perhaps as champions.
Don’t get me wrong - I am as desperate as anyone for success.
But I need ( we need ) to be patient ( a word that is not in the vocabulary of a football fan ).
Let’s go for it - but let’s accept that failure ultimately would not be the end. It could be followed by glorious success!

Come on people. Overall, we are looking very good at the movement.

- Forest have turned the corner after a dip in December and are currently top of the form table!
- Forest have managed 14 points from the last 6 games
- The next teams on the list have 11 points
- Leeds have managed only 5 points and West Brom only 4 points
- Forest have scored 11 goals in the last 6 games which is top of the list
- Forest have a goal difference of +6 from the last 6 games which is only topped by Brentford on +7
- Forest are solid in defense and will look even better once Ribeiro has gotten a few more games under his belt
- Watson and Sow have shown that they are a very good defensive midfield pairing
- There are strong signs that Lolley is on his way back hitting form just at the right time
- Grabban is on 16 goals now!!
- Forest have no injuries to key players
- Forest have apparently a very good dressing room where everybody is supporting each other
- Forest have addressed the lack of speed up front with the loan of Diakhaby and others are on the way

Based on that list I don't really see why we should be pessimistic about the remaining 18 games. I bet other teams are looking at Forest and are getting a bit nervous. I believe we are ideally positioned for the remaining part of the season.

I'm not buying this 'we're not good enough for the top two' talk. Yeah we know we need backup to Grabban and it looks like we're addressing that. But if we only sneak into the top two after 95 minutes of the final match, then we were good enough. There's everything still to play for!

Current squad is top 6. If we want to make the top 2, which is pefectly possible, Silva & Ameobi should be on the bench with better in their place, Carvalho & Adomah should be elsewhere & with better in their place too, at least one of those better being a striking option.

We also need someone to bridge the gap between Sow & Yates. I rate Yates, but a short term quality loan to cover Sow to a better level is what we need for this season.

For me we're a pretty average team that is solid at the back, sits in our half and trying to play on break. We rarely dominate but on the other hand rarely outplayed and usually in games even away. A pretty useful skill in a league where you can lose any game regardless of who you are.

I do think that there are a number of better teams than us but that doesn't mean they are as consistent and I think we can still edge ahead of them. The games against WBA and leeds are key to not let them get ahead again.

Not sure how you rate teams Wassy. Is it a player by player comparison or is it the sum of all or something in between?

If we take a closer look at our starting 11 I would rate each as follows:

- Samba - one of the best keepers in the Championship -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Cash - probably the best RB in the league -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Worrall - one of the best CBs in the league -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Figs and Dawson - above average CBs in the league -> probably not PL material (Dawson too old for PL)
- Ribeiro - above average LBs in the league -> early signs indicate that Ribs do have the potential to survive in the PL
- Watson - one of the best DCMs in the league (yes I do believe that) -> too old for PL
- Sow - one of the best DCMs in the league -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Lolley - one of the best wingers in the league -> will manage the step up to PL football
- Silva - at least an average winger in the league -> probably not PL material
- Ameobi - at least an average winger in the league -> probably not PL material
- Grabban - one of the best strikers in the Championship -> will manage the step up to PL football

It is difficult for me to see that there is many teams in the Championship that is better than Forest which also the league table shows. Forest are a very organized team that is very difficult to break down and we score above average number of goals. 

Please keep in mind that Forest are a young team in the sense that we only have had Lamouchi for half a season. It is therefore very encouraging that we now seem to be building momentum.

I think we just need a tweak to the tactic's we use against teams that sit in and defend deep. And an upgrade on Ameobi, the rest is nearly there.

When I've watched the likes of fulham, WBA, leeds they are able to dominate games in a way we just aren't or haven't done this year. Can only really remember the brentford game like that. 

We regularly are battling in games and the other teams often create the same of more chances than us. That's what I'm basing saying we're average on. 

Whereas the likes of fulham etc will create more chances in most games than the teams they play. 

I think Sabri has done an amazing job really, we play to our strengths and are very solid. I just think without the ability to create more chances we're always going to have games like last night. 

I do think we are as good as those teams away from home. We are 3rd in the away league table but have played a lot of the top sides away already. So just need to improve at home

I believe we are set up to play on the counter hence I don't believe we are trying to play like Fulham but fail. And btw, Fulham have only scored 3 more goals than Forest and they have played one game more. So not a massive difference there
