Must’ve been around the same time - were England on tour somewhere ( South America )?
Did I dream that?

I can recall watching an England game with 5 Forest players on the pitch. I vaguely recall it was a night time game at Wembley.

It must have been Pearce, Walker, Webb, Hodge, Clough perhaps? I'm guessing.

Peter Davenport, Nottingham Forest, 1982 - 1986. Davo scored an amazing 54 goals for Forest in just 118 appearances.

Davenport was born in Birkenhead and was spotted by scouts from Nottingham Forest while playing for Cammell Laird in the West Cheshire league. Forest offered Cammell Laird a brand new football kit if they could sign Davenport, to which they reluctantly agreed.

My childhood hero.
I was gutted when the club sold him a week after they said they wouldnt.

I was there when Davo planted that fantastic goal in the net of PSV in Eindhoven. Great night that was.

Peter Davenport was a fantastic player but it went a bit under the radar at the time. He must be one of the greatest bargains ever.

Honestly cant remember that. I will have been sat at home next to the radio listening avidly. Later I will have watched the highlights on Sportsnight.

Listening to the Sportsnight music again now makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up such is the influence on me of watching the highlights of those european away games on the telly.

Great times. We didnt know how lucky we were at the time.

Davo was awesome and he had some very hard acts to follow like Birtles, Woodcock and Francis etc.

great goal, great player and a great game,
what a day that was, we didn't book any digs so had to stay in a bar all night drinking before getting the train back next day,
those were the days I struggle to drink to 11-00 now.

Joe, I remember it vey well, the train station closed after the match and I spent the night sleeping on a bench close to the station. The station opened again about 6.30 the following mornoing and we took the train back to The Hook of Holland to get the ferry back to England.
