Regarding Pants, I have been saying it all season...We need a new goalkeeper in the summer.

First goal he should definitely stopped. 2nd goal the shot was excellent but he really should be doing better in my book. 3rd goal i dont think he could have done much about.

It wasnt his best night's work. Ok every player has a bad game every now and then. BUT, this is not the first night he's had a bad night.

When the pressure cranks up he goes missing.

3rd goal, he should have intercepted it, it was a dangerous cross that defenders expect their keeper to bail them out and not remain stuck on his line. Crosses like those or are intercepted by the keeper or will end up in an own goal as the defender is facing his goal.

I had their third goal down as being as a result of an excellent delivery. It had pace and direction. The 2 CB's were static. I don't think you can put that one down to him to be honest.

Perfect delivery yes, but you dont see much goals conceeded like that in the premiership or some of the foreign leagues, why? because good keepers `own` the box, if not the big one at least the small one... a giant like ours should be more imposing. My guess is that players like Milo and big Ben are used to have keepers behind them that crosses like those eat them on a plate and dont have to risk committing an own goal. Re watch the goal and tell me how a defender facing our goal was going to intercept that cross without the risk of an own goal? ... even their player was surprised to find the ball hitting him...he never expected that the ball was going to cross the whole area with no one touching the ball...

Milo as a CB is ok, hes nothing exceptional either.  hes not commanding like Mings.

Jock, he plays a different type of game. he is good at intercepting crosses, good at helping at set pieces, sometimes can carry the ball with his feet too, but not good enough to sustain that sort of pressure we endured in the first half hour. He expects that the opposition is stopped further up the pitch.
I repeat, we were lucky yesterday that Abrahams had an off day (no where close to their home game), as he had some really tidy chances that he should have converted.

We were soft centred, bypass our attack, overpower our midfield & the defence stood no chance.

It was frustrating to watch the highlights as well.

But that's what I saw happening.

Loosing the ball cheaply up front.  Villa had a good half an hour.  And we didn't.  After that, the game was over.

If we don't make a miracle happen this year, we need some serious additions for next year. Quality additions, not a million random imports hoping one or two work.

IF by miracle we sneak promotion ( dreaming I know) with this lot....we have NO ONE good enough for the Premiership...we have to replace a whole team from the keeper to the striker...maybe half a dizen can be good for the bench but that is about it. Yesterday showed the best we have against a team that will hoover at the bottom places of the Premiership. Pls keep in mind that many keep mentioning Lolley as our best player...he was offloaded by a team that will be playing in the Championship next season...Colback?... no team in the Premiership ever bothered to take him from Newcastle nd the same player was happy to play for us nd not hold for a Premiership team. Even Villa...why Mings didnt find a Premiership team for the rest of the season? Same applies to Abrahams...nd these r considered the big guns in this division....that shows you the gap it exists between what we have nd what we need to win promotion nd more importantly to not beat Derbys record in the Premiership..

Think that's the same for every club that's promoted though isnt it? And there's always players that step up to the higher level who you might not expect to. 

But I agree with your general point, watching us struggle against Villa last night, did illustrate the vast difference in class between us and them.

Bizarely I actually think Carvalho will be a lot more at home in the Prem, and to that end Grabban with flourish more than he did last time too.

I'd prob have Grabban down as a number 2 striker (and by that I don't mean poo) to play backup/rotate to a higher quality one.

And, I know this is gonna soud even more mental, but I think we've a few lads in the likes of Benny & Cash etc. who can fill a squad role simple through effort alone.

We would be massively out our depth overall though. Thankfully, MON only needs a handful of decent physical players, and he can make us competive.

Would have been nice if we'd have bought in more of them this Jan lol.

Sorry if this sounds a bit over the top, I am just being brutally honest.

No matter which league we are in next season, here is my summer clearout list including loans who will go back automatically and out of contract players.

Pantilimon, Steele, Henderson, Byram, Janko, Pele, Colback, Watson, Wague, Tachstidis, Goncalves, Ward, Vellios, Murphy, Ansarifard and this one will surprise a few, Carvalho. Personally if we are in the Championship next season I would keep both Yacob and Bridcutt but they both seem out of favour under Mon and Roy. The only loan player that I would try to bring back is Colback.
