Is Promotion Still Possible?

Even if we make the play offs, which imo we won’t, does anything think we’re good enough to get a result against anyone over 2 legs? We rarely play well 2 games running which has seriously hurt our season. Flashes of brilliance are often followed by 90 minutes averageness.
We’re not miles away, so I’m hopeful of a good season next season provided MON and Roy are left alone to build their team

We haven’t won an away game yet under Martin so unless there is a big up turn in getting results away from the WFCG then I think the playoffs will be tough.

Hopefully that stat ceases to exist on Saturday.

Robinson, Cash, Byram and Grabban will all feature .. soon also Appiah … i think we are better set up for away games … Villa we weren't all bad, we had good spells and a few mistakes, it happens … when we eventually come into land in the top 6 we'll stay there …

I also agree on the goalkeeping situation, it needs sorting, urgently!

Maybe next season, but with this squad then the answer is No, even if we were lucky enough to make the playoffs, we'd only bottle it.

Honest opinion, but I think we are a season away from achieving what folk want now, we need better players to come in the summer transfer window, and we really need to ship out a lot of the dead wood that unfortunately are still here, starting with Pantilimon.

Too much negativity today, we win and Preston/villa draw and we’re 6th tomorrow. I mean even if we made the playoffs it’s still 1/4 chance (although we’ve beaten sheff u boro WBA (sort of) and Leeds this season so we could win.

I’m just enjoying the excitement of being vaguely in contention and actually caring what other teams do each weekend. I’m not expecting anything as the odds still aren’t that high but we’re still in it so have fun!

Also, we’re not the only team with issues, I’m sure boro derby BC are all worrying about their teams and there’s a reason why villa/Preston are currently not in playoffs either so don’t give up just yet.

Now the disappointment of Wednesday has dissipated a little, I'm thinking if we finish 7th or 8th it will have been a really good season IMO. It would be really something to build on. We saw on Wednesday how much of a class difference there was between us and Villa.

Hopefully we don't/won't need wholesale changes to the squad, just two or three holes plugged. And if MON & Keane can avoid the chop we'll go into pre-season in a really positive way, all settled and ready to go from the off.

Before the season started, I felt that going from top of the bottom 8 (relegation fears...) to bottom of the top 8 (bypassing the middle 8) would have been great progress.

Vs Teams that have spent far more than Forest or been in the Premier relatively recently.

I felt that was progress.  

But..? 

Not my £25 million.   I'm not the boss of Forest.  I'm not holding my money to account.

Positives?

1.  3 points off the play offs.
2.  Old Ground?  Is going to the the New Ground.  For-ev-er!
3.  MoN/Keane are here!  Dream ticket.  (But for Pete's sake.  Give them a pre-season and a Summer transfer window.)  We've seen tactical flashes of the team Forest can be under MoN.  But you can only shuffle your deck to a point.  He's given every player a chance bar Liam and App'.  
4.  Unearthed some very good CHs.  For 'no money.'
5.  Unearthed Yates and Pele, that, with some coaching and a pre-season and different attacking players ahead of them...

Negatives?

1.  Our Summer transfer business.
2.  1 injured top striker.
3.  An old deputising striker.
4.  The Portuguese business has been a relative disaster for the money spent.
5.  Soudani.  Injured.
6.  Imbalanced squad.  (See '1'.)
7.  None of the above are MoN's fault.
8.  Being 3 points off the play offs (that's NOT where 'Mr. Walkout' left us...) SHOULD have been firmly in the top 6 but...
9.  Due to a petulant December...

Anyway.  Same old arguments.

I'm sure Steve Bruce will be telling his Wed' squad it's possible.  Maybe they started from a higher base than we did. Steve hasn't had to do what Aitor or MoN has had to do.

Same with Villa.  The 'other' in form team.

Preston?  Fair play to them.  We should have beaten them.  But they're pressing for a top 6.  And they didn't spend £25 million?  Perhaps they scout or something...or develop players...or are several years into a strategy...?

Feeling 7th or 8th now would represent a good season in my opinion.

However, when we are so close to the play offs though it will still feel painful to miss out.

I suppose it's like saying: 'I will take a point away from home today at Leeds, but if you are 2-0 up with 2 minutes to go and you end up drawing it will feel like a disappointment'.
