Sean Dyche, Stoney And Woany

I coiuld be loaded up on drugs and dreams on Empire building in Greenland and central and South America but since my only thing of choice is Caffeine I don't believe I went all Mr. Robot and deluded myself into thinking that it wasn't mentioned.  I would actually prefer if he was sent back to Arsenal as he is not what we need but hey ho...

Chicago: Imaginary friend.

Literally not been reported anywhere, either by the local guys, or mentioned by Dyche !

I said similar on another thread but last season we played counter attacking football with probably the best right back in the league playing behind the fastest player in the league alongside the best no.9 in the league (bar Haaland).

In a nutshell, we haven’t had those three players this season.
Of course this alone is going to make a massive difference to results and performance, and it doesn’t matter who the manager is.

But I would be interested to see how many of us think the current squad would be performing with different tactics (lets say Nuno was still charge) would we be better?
Or do we think that last season was a bit of a freak, we've lost Wood, Elanga and Aina and without those 3 we arent as good as we like to think? Obviously the manager upheavals need to be taken into account.

Therefore performing to expectations or could do better?

I think the squad had a good season whilst taking advantage of others performing poorly. This small squad that did so well then lost it's best (arguable now) full back, it's counter attacking threat and top scorer.

That meant the signings were key and they've underwhelmed massively bar perhaps early Ndoye and Hutch.

The team is therefore in my view performing as expected until we can get a striker to replace wood.

Interesting question. Personally I think last season we overachieved massively and that has led to some fans thinking we are better than we are/raised expectations. We dropped off towards the end of last season as we a) got found out and b) struggled with injuries, knocks and/or fatigue in a small squad.

When you lose your key striker, a key fullback and one of your main outlets and assist makers then you are going to perhaps struggle as replacements, unless you’re talking top players, inevitably take time to settle/find their feet. In terms of whether this group would be doing better with different tactics or Nuno still here then controversial but no, I don’t think they would. As I say we dropped off under Nuno last season and the 3 games under him this season we were inconsistent. Ange was an attacking style coach and bar 45 mins v Betis and 45 v Swansea we were all over the place, generally poor and couldn’t buy a win. So 3 different coaches with differing styles. For me with this set of players regardless of whoever the coach is we will see inconsistent performances. Some very good ones and some very poor so our position feels right

I agree with most of this, however I would say this is a pretty spectacular drop from where we were last year. Whilst not expecting us to be in the CL hunt again I thought somewhere around Brentford, Fulham, Brighton tier was where we'd be. We are so much worse than that though, so its still an underachievement in my opinion. Maybe only by a couple of wins though.

The league is so bunched up too, bloody Brentford are 5th right now. 6 points from 4th to 13th, think the midtable sides are having a strong year which has made it harder.

Ultimately though its all Wood right, a goal scorer is everything. Look at the impact the likes of DCL and Thiago are having on average to poor teams. Losing Wood and then his replacement being a massive bust forcing us to largely start the 3rd choice option has screwed us, particularly when you take out Elanga's goals too. Maybe we luck out in the new striker signing and the season can be somewhat salvaged.

When their second went in I started to contemplate what time I should leave (I very rarely leave before full time to the extent that I can clearly remember when I do…Coventry away many years ago, I think we were three nil down to Darren Huckerby). I said to my Dad that if they get a third I’m done, I also concluded that Sean had to go post game and asked who should be brought in to oversee our sleepwalk back to the Championship.

Then VAR stepped in, it was suddenly one nil, my brain couldn’t comprehend it. Everything goes against us doesn’t it?

Then Domi flicked on from a corner, he’d been shyte in my opinion, a glorified water carrier who won the odd 50:50 but had contributed very little otherwise.

I felt we could potentially hang on for a point, actually hoped rather than felt because it was like watching two tramps fight over a bag of chips and neither had the energy to throw a punch.

Then MGW goes down in the area, he’s dived and we’re trying to run the clock down, hang on, VAR is reviewing it, then the referee goes over, surely it’s nailed on if they’ve asked the referee to look at it? He’s f*****g given it!!!

Oh f**k, MGW is taking it. I was in the away end in Graz when he missed his penalty and some of his attempted flicks tonight were way off so he’s gonna miss another one, I can’t really watch but can’t look away, he’s hit it straight down the middle, Nipples is bound to save it with his legs but even from the other end of the pitch we can see that the net has bulged, something crossed between a scream and a shout leaves my throat, like someone in a yodelling competition. I’m not really sure what to do. I’m a little confused to be honest.

We’re winning

Nuno, Nuno, Nuno, we’re on the piss with Nuno.

The ground is less than half empty. It looks like Meadow Lane on a match day. You can actually see the different patterns and colours on the seats.

The whistle goes, we’ve f*****g won.

The walk back to the Westfield to find the car, I remind my Dad that we’re still competing on three fronts. Wrexham away is no longer an annoyance, a disruption we could do without, but a chance to get to Wembley. Start our strongest eleven (bar Anderson and Williams) and let’s put them to bed in ninety minutes (let’s not repeat Exeter away from last season).

At 50 minutes last night I fully expected this thread to be closed and a new manager thread in full flow!!!

Great post and I imagine most of us shared very similar thoughts. Lets hope we can kick on somehow,.even though we were not very good.

That is fair enough.

Fine margins though because if we had lost to West Ham which we would have done without Var then we would be 4th bottom since Dyche.

I am fairly happy with the points on the board. It is the turgid style of football that grinds my gears.

Interesting comment from Dyche in his post match interview following the West Ham game, where he basically said he told them to get it forward quicker and crosses into the box at half time.

He said something to the likes of ‘which the players seemed to listen to us and take on board’

Which leads me to think the players might not be overly receptive to what he has been asking of them.

I feel that in the body language.

Most games under Nuno were a shit watch though to be fair, even the memorable games were made of memorable moments rather than 90 minutes of pure joy.

3 out of our 4 seasons in the Premier league have been a backs to the wall slog, that includes all of Nuno’s first season.
The difference is we did look to have a real threat on the break last season and we have totally lost that ability

Wonder how Antony feels now after moving to the money washers? Especially if his mate moves to Frankfurt.

Cheeky loan anyone?

Chicago: Stuck in the past.

Antony wouldnt want to come back, he was never that invested here, never moved to the area. Im sure his pay packet is easing the pain.
