Beware Greeks bearing gaffes. And beware criticising your boss in public. It all feels such a waste, losing Nuno. Kept Forest up, transformed atmosphere at the City Ground, won at Anfield, battered Brighton, got Forest 7th, into Europe, nominated for LMA PL Manager of the Year, and two of his players in the PFA Team of the Year (Sels, Wood). Deserved backing not sacking by the owner.
Marinakis has done plenty of good at Forest, investing in the squad, clearly passionate about football. But he has to bear much of the responsibility for the breakdown in his relationship with one of the best managers Forest have had in years. Nuno's also culpable for this sad outcome - it was provocative to speak out so negatively about his relationship with Marinakis.
Nuno collecting his cards was on the cards then, especially with headlines about him wanting Traore and tensions with Edu, especially with lingering frustration over the way last season ended, drawing at home to relegated Leicester, fading out of CL picture. Nuno still got Forest in Europe which few predicted at the start of the season.
Nuno is a loss. Players liked him, Anderson talked about how he’d improved him, fans loved him. When Marinakis sacked Cooper, many fans felt aggrieved. Marinakis appointed Nuno who revived Forest's fortunes. Nuno’s successor has plenty of good players to work with and plenty of pressure. He has to do better than seventh. And has to keep Marinakis onside. And Forest fans remain on a rollercoaster. #NFFC
I really like Henry Winter and he seems to be always write good stuff about us but this is poor by him.
The whole kept Forest up thing isn’t that black and white, the stats speak for themselves.
The atmosphere under SC was just as good as it was under Nuno. In fact it’s not been brilliant for the most part for a good six months.
Surely no one can argue that Nuno has not been backed? Just because we didn’t sign Traore? That’s ridiculous.
Why does EM have to bear the responsibility? Nuno’s conduct this Summer has been nothing short of shocking when it comes to dealing with the press.
Did the fans love him? I personally never felt that, even away from home, he has given us some incredible moments but I didn’t have the same affinity with him as I did with his predecessor.

Anyway, just want to thank Nuno for some incredible moments since he walked through the door:
1. Newcastle away (26 December 2023). Woody turned all Brazilian Ronaldo and it was the quietest I’ve ever head St James Park
2. Liverpool away (14 September 2024). I’d never seen us win here, never heard Anfield so quiet, Elanga’s run and cross field ball, CHO doing what CHO does. Amazing. I cried that day. Unbelievable.
3. Everton away (29 December 2024). Last ever trip to Goodison. Great team goal and an unbelievable piece of skill from Woody
4. Spurs away (21 April 2025). We mullered them from start to finish. Love winning at “White Hart Lane”

I was at that Newcastle game and living pretty close by made it by far the best game I've been to. Especially as it was that supposed 'donkey' Wood who bagged them all.
Lovely stuff.

Sad end to a wonderful spell. Will always respect Nuno - a principled chap who gave us the best season in decades.

Winter is usually very good and one of the better and more fair minded journos. However, he does have his favourites, Trent Alexander Arnold one of them and Nuno another where the blinkers tend to be on.

Tend to agree with your comments, I really like Winter but as you point out some context is missing, the Traore thing in particular is pretty laughable.

Agree with all of this completely as a fellow Cooper fanboy. The atmosphere was transformed by Cooper not Nuno, weird comment really. Nuno was pretty lucky to keep his job after the first 6 months and we stayed up more due to Burnley/Luton being dreadful in the end.
Obviously last season was incredible but agree that we shouldn't rewrite history. There are likely 14 other managers that would love the backing Nuno has received this summer too, his unwillingness to work with Edu is frankly bizarre in my opinion, how bad can it have been to give up such a fantastic opportunity.

Suspicious part of me thinks Neville may have been correct and Nunos reaction was to engineer an exit from that moment after the Leicester game. That he managed to wangle a new 3 year deal over the summer he is laughing all the way to the bank.

Yeah it's hard not to be cynical about that, he surely knew what he was signing up to when signing it and has pretty much tried to get out of it ever since.
Rationally, it seems unlikely that happened but the whole situation is pretty irrational. Throwing your toys out over not signing a backup winger, just doesn't add up at all.

Why did he sign a three year contract in the knowledge that Edu was coming in and what the structure would be, keep silent in the media pre-season, then decide to start throwing grenades in the public eye.
Lack of class IMO.
