If Lyon win their appeal and overturn their relegation then we are in the EL.

Agree. Question is how long will it take to sort out Lyon’s appeal? Ridiculous really that it’s come to this. Also surely if this is the case then that means Uefa have decided Palace broke the rules and if that is the case why aren’t they punished irrespective of what happens to Lyon? Feels like a cop out and Uefa hoping Lyon get relegated so they can brush it under the carpet.

Because there's a whole heap of legal hassle on the way if they ban them now. See it from their point of view, why not just let it play out? The french FA and Lyon will need their dispute settling quickly too. Its July now.

Plus the punishment is removing the lesser side from the competition, currently, that's Lyon.

Fair points. It just seems though from what is being reported that if Lyon win their appeal Palace are kicked out EL but if Lyon lose their appeal, Palace will stay in EL. So the latter infers they would get away in that scenario with braking the rules.

They won't have broken the rules though will they as Textor won't have control over two clubs in the competition? Unless you consider the rule to be that no owner shall have a controlling influence over two clubs 'at the point in which they qualified' to play in Europe, not 'who will actually be competing in the tournament'.

That's the question. At the time of UEFA's deadline of March 1st they *had* broken the rules.

Yep. I'm no lawyer, but I reckon a court would determine that the significant issue at hand is who will actually be playing in the tournament, not who was breaking the rules at some arbitrary point in time, months before a ball is kicked.

By delaying I also think that UEFA are trying to give Palace as much chance as possible to enable them to compete, rather then kicking them out now, which I think is the right thing to do. Yes, we're affected to a certain degree, but that's the right thing to do really.

Suspect you are right. I know its a different issue but shame in that case then that others didn’t seem fit to want to give as much leniency to us when we breached the PSR limits. Afterall, that would have been the right thing to do surely seeing as we followed through on selling Johnson as we said we would and maximised the amount we got for him.

Palace fully deserve Europe.

Tex was trying to get out of the club for ages and they weren't expected to qualify for Europe at the time of the deadline.

As soon as they qualified he did everything to get out of the club.

Uefa are quite right in doing everything they can to keep them in the competition although I admit Tex is a clown and this is becoming a massive circus.

I also believe that the clubs probably know more than we do and have been given indication/assurances from Uefa and legal teams.

Rules are rules though. We weren't treated with any leniency when we failed PSR despite demonstrating why we'd not sold Johnson earlier as we were holding out for the highest-possible fee. Why should Palace be shown any leeway?
