The fact that Palace missed the deadline cannot be changed.

No matter what Textor does or has done that above still stands.

Very true. Just because he's doing something about it now, doesn't retrospectively unbreak the rules.

A VERY different situation with different parties, but we missed the deadline to sell Brennan and we were punished. We weren't let off because we did the thing we needed to do after the fact.

But I think with Palace it'll be enough for them to let them off.

And if that's the case I'd be very surprised if we don't appeal.

Well presumably Lyon's relegation resolves all the issues for Crystal Palace.

Not necessarily. Not sure how that will all work. Will Lyon still be able to play in the Europa? Don't think that's been mentioned yet.

Lyon relegated, does it definitely affect their Europa league position? That would be very convenient!

Apparently they have the right to appeal, wonder what the timeline is for that. What a mess!

I asked AI and it said they haven’t been excluded from Europa from this judgment, but it raises the point that they could now be considered the lower of the 2 sides by UEFA and let Palace take the one slot if they are deemed to fail the multi ownership test.

Although it also says the appeal could be expected by September or October, but it may last until 2026.

I don’t think AI is the finished article yet :)

Well they qualified by finishing 6th so presumably they've been bumped down to bottom of the league.

Even if Lyon are expelled from Europe ater being relegated that doesn't mean that Palace automatically get the Europa League place.

It is still in the balance.

Lyon haven’t been given a points deduction and their 6th place finish in L1 still stands, simply they have been told as they have failed to comply with guidance they will have to compete in L2 next season.
Therefore they have still qualified for Europe and it is a matter for UEFA if they are admitted. Would probably be difficult to exclude them without a lengthy court battle and it’s essential for their finances to remain in that competition so they aren’t giving up without a fight.

All of which means no change with regard to Palace. Lets see what happens. I get the analogy with us failing PSR but I do think there are different circumstances and the March deadline was a purely administrative thing. My gut feeling is Palace get a fine for not abiding by rules and get to play in Europa.
