Nottingham Forest - Newcastle United

Well - that was enjoyable. The pens were a disappointment at the end - I’d have thought they weren’t the 5 we had planned to take them.
Miguel: 8 - a good game overall - 2 kicks were poor but good saves and great pen save. Commanded his box well from crosses and has some of samba type swagger.
Boly- 8, used the ball well and aggressive. Think he should have played centre though to help Marshal Abbott
Omi- 7 - good on the whole - some impressive runs into midfield but over did it by not making the right pass after. Him and Abbott partly to blame for goal.
Abbott 6- recovered well but not ready to face Isak! Newcastle targeted him and Nuno replaced him just in time- that said, huge potential! Needs a loan.
Moreira-9 - excellent - reminds me of Reece James - similar build and excellent going forward. Can’t throw!
Moreno-7 - a bit rusty but will make left back his own.
Anderson-7- would have been higher but flagged badly second half - not a 10!
Dominguez 8- excellent pressing and ratting about - great energy but lacked the end pass in the final third. Contender for mom
Jota Silva- 9 MOM wow - what a debut. Played more of a 10 role than winger but popped up everywhere. Has a bit of the devil in him too - linked really well with Moreira - great goal. Looked full of running but think he was bought off with Saturday in mind. Loved that he was so robust and so good in the air - beat burn twice!
Sosa- 6 - so much more to come - delicious free kick delivery. Tried to get it on his right foot but slipped in good positions - I think he may need a bit of time to adapt to the pace but confident he will be an asset
Taiwo -5 awful pen. Let no up play was actually very much improved but he is so rusty and lacking sharpness. Hope staying on for 90 minutes hasn’t broken him and he feels the benefit in the long run. We need another option up front as he is nowhere near the level at the moment - lost his explosive run.
Elanga 5- not a 10!
CHO- 6- neat but didn’t have too much impact and didn’t cover Moreno a couple of times but may be under instruction to stay high - risk / reward type of thing.
Milenkovic- 8 class. Will be player of the season.

Nuno- 7 - subs were a bit dodgy but can see what he is trying to do to get us to be a more progressive team.

An enjoyable night- excited by what I saw against newcastles first choice team. They were a bit more cute than us and their midfield is so strong, athletic and creative. Well drilled but a bit methodical and dare I say boring…

Very encouraging night overall. Maybe ot a bad thing we went out to be honest but the performance will give a lot of players a huge injection of confidence.

Thought we were the better team throughout (apart from 1st minute and last 10). Considering that's Newcastle's 1st choice team they were disappointing, feel we can end up higher than them in the league.
Caribou cup is rigged this year with the top teams keep away from each other and guaranteed home fixtures, I think we are better out of it.

Is it me or does Awoniyi appear to not be playing with a smile on his face. Something just feels a bit off with him. He's just didn't look up for taking that penalty.

I thought that as well. Shame really. Somethings definitely not right there.

He didn't join the Spain pre-season camp until later due to some issue or other so presumably that's what's affecting him.

Yeah not sure why he was talking a penalty really, given he looked off it all game.

I guess seeing us linked with every striker in the world can't be doing wonders for his confidence either.

The issue with Taiwo pre season was his ill Son, not sure if it’s still an issue but it maybe.

He was strong, did a lot of running and looked just what he currently is, a player coming back from a bad injury who's endeavouring to find some match sharpness.

I think the lad's getting some real unfair criticism from fans atm. He had two bad injuries last season to overcome, one of which was caused by him being returned too soon due to Wood's injury.  And by all accounts he's had some kind of personal issue pre-season to deal with. I wish him well with that and hope everything's ok. Give him time and he'll be a real asset again this season I'm sure. I think we've forgotten that when he's at it, he's almost unplayable.

I don't disagree but doesn't mean he should've been given a sympathy penalty? Literally cost us the game. I respect him stepping up of course but felt like Moreno or Dominguez should've taken one.

Maybe Moreno, Dominguez and Elanga all said they didn't fancy one?

Yep, point taken about the penalty. He was dead on his feet at the end but the striker's got to take a pen, surely?
