Nuno needs to be tactically smart. Last season we saw a Cooper master class in this game. Frustrate them for an hour, getting men behind the ball, filling all the spaces and after an hour as they began to tire make a couple of attacking substitutions and go for them more. Similar tactics and some luck is the only way we get anything on Sunday. I am not sure Nuno has got the tactical flexibility to do that in a game but we will see.

Poor finishing from city saw us stay in that game, let's be real. Haaland missed a fair few chances, de bruyne couldn't hit the target, it was not a tactical masterclass.

So every game is just decided by how many chances you create? 

If we're playing that game, how about our much heralded game vs Newcastle. They could've been 2-3 up early before we got in front and missed some great chances. Were we lucky then?

We were playing the best team in the world and we limited them to long range efforts and a few big chances then took our chance when it came. I think we did the best we could've done in that game, certainly better than I believed was possible. 

Or was anyone expecting us to dominate that game? Feel like Cooper nailed that one personally.

Seeing all the press around Gary f*****g Neville is making me realise how horrible this season has been for many reasons.

Smug, snidey, arrogant, self-opinionated, areseholes like Lineker, Neville, Carragher and Shearer are definitely part of the problem. All dinosaurs from a similar era saying the same nonsense and sucking up to the big clubs. All of them in favour of VAR because they know it gives them something else to waffle on about and an opportunity to get their egotistical faces on TV even more. Their time has gone and they need sacking off as much as Keys and Gray did.

Not saying Cooper didn’t set us up well but tactical masterclass feels a bit extreme and I am a Cooper fan! He set us up to stifle City, stay in the game and hope to be in it and nick something. That’s not a masterclass, it’s realism. But if people want to argue it was then fine but recognise then that Nuno’s tactics v Liverpool were a masterclass too then. We’d have won that game had it not been for poor finishing.

Pretty well every one of the 38 points we achieved last season, worth noting more than we will achieve this season, was won in the same way, low block and counter attack. So were all those 38 points lucky? Of course not, it worked and I genuinely don’t think we could have stayed up last year playing any other way.

However it was a tactic that needed to evolve and to an extent has done so, just not always successfully. Maybe we tried to be too adventurous too quickly. Maybe its bad luck or maybe we just forgot to do the basics right. I believe we are inching 2 steps forward, one step back, just need to survive this season.

That’s not a masterclass, it’s realism. But if people want to argue it was then fine but recognise then that Nuno’s tactics v Liverpool were a masterclass too then. Yeah I do get it, I didn't use the term masterclass, it was obviously a common sense tactic. I'm sure there were nuances within the defensive tactics that were well designed and thought out though and the management and players deserved credit for executing it.

As opposed to basically being denounced as lucky and City being bad the only reason we didn't get thrashed.

Cooper masterclass? The game I watched could have been a cricket score but City’s players had an off day finishing wise. We were lucky to keep it at one nil but yes our goal was class as were the fans that game as usual

Crikey. It was a superb backs to the wall performance and result against a team that went onto win the treble. The ground was rocking. We defended for our lives for an hour and then the manager changed it up. Now by certain people it was nothing. we should of lost by a cricket score. if we were horse we would have been shot. If it was a boxing match it would have been stopped. certain people have got an agenda to rubbish what Cooper achieved in his two years as manager. We also managed to beat Arsenal with a similar performance. I guess the same things will be said about that. Now we really need a result at home against City. Let’s see if the current manager has the nous to pull it off.
