Been thinking about this and what people are saying about the quality of set pieces which I agree with. To be honest I am much more annoyed about yesterday’s result than I was about Luton.
Luton was just one of those freak results that happens in football, we got a bit complacent and backed off, changed what we were doing and it bit us on the arse. It doesn’t happen often.
Yesterday we put the effort in the whole 90mins, there was clearly a game plan, we got ourselves in front when we knew it was a proper battle in an even contest. Yet what we did was give the ball away, allowed far too many set pieces. Surely that should have been part of the plan to not let them have a dead ball in our half or give away corners if possible but we just seemed to let it happen. Agree with Cooper that some of those set pieces we didn’t defend well either, don’t know if it was lack of desire as he said but we weren’t getting to the ball first. Im hardly an expert but it was pretty obvious what West Hams threat was and how they would score and in my opinion we didn’t do nearly enough to stop it happening.
As for our own set pieces, think MGW getting a hard time but we know JWP is simply the best in the league at a dead ball so its a tough comparison. Yes I think someone else should take at least a few and mix it up a bit though, would give MGW a chance to get in the box and do something special himself.

I liked Toffo taking a few free kicks recently but its always from the RHS of the pitch. Lodi also did this last season, however when the opposition break fast Toffo is out of position!

It's funny how we differ. I was raging about the Luton game for about two weeks ?. Although I don't think it's effort, it's the same lack of concentration causing stupid errors. I see West Ham as a club doing things a bit better than us over a longer period time in the top flight. They are what we are trying to step up to. Last year they did us 4 nill and won a European trophy. We should have taken something from the game I'm not saying the mistakes are ok, however, that is a home game west ham should be winning.

Yes get your point. Just thought Luton was a one off. Yesterday is becoming a recurring theme away from home, do all the hard work and get done by individual mistakes.
West Ham may well feel they should be beating Forest at home but doesn’t mean we have to give them that result especially when we get in a winning position. Think its just frustration on my part, last season was just hoping not to get battered, this time we have showed we can do it and compete but are letting ourselves down at key moments.

We were good for the win for 65 mins, The equaliser killed us in my opinion as it came a minute after we scored, But there is definitely a lot of positives to take away from this game and some negatives
On to Brighton and I reckon we can beat them like we did last season.

It's not just the set pieces, let's not forget we gave them a 1-0 headstart for absolutely no reason. Think that's what makes it so frustrating that we lost after working so hard to recover from that mistake

Cooper was spot on after the match. West Ham wanted to win more than we did. We lost too many duels, conceded too many set pieces and didn’t fight hard enough to keep them out. I also thought some of our players started to look tired and make poor decisions. I thought before the match that WHam would tire as the game went on because of playing a tough game on Thursday. In hindsight we should have brought Yates on at half time and not Danilo.

Danillo was instrumental in second goal with his composure in tight spaces.
Yates would have been useful for the corners though!!!

Do we have a set piece coach? This should be a focus for me, been a weakness for us for a long time at both ends of the pitch. Also, is MGW really our best corner taker? JWP is quite possibly the best set piece taker in the world (shame about the rest of his game) however the gap between him and MGW on corners/free kicks was pretty vast. Perhaps signing a player to take set pieces should be a focus in upcoming windows?
