Away Form

All teams switch play quickly and look to overload our full back area as we play a narrow 3 in midfield that means that invariably RB and LB are always outnumbered 2 or 3 on 1 with little coverage.

I’ve been to every match this season and see it time and again.

I’m not sure 433 or a 4321 variant works. I would prefer 3 CB’s as it allows us to push wing backs up the pitch and pin back the opposition more. I know we went there and didn’t stick with it but with a 4 we keep getting overloaded at full back and that exposes us badly.

There is a reason we aren't playing with 3 CB's at the moment mate..........................we only have 2 that are fit and available! Or would you rather SC played a player out of position to do this?

I can imagine the stick he would get if he did and we still keep getting battered.

One of the biggest differences between other sides and us is they press high and hard on our players. We tend to stand off

I guess this thread will be getting lots of coverage next season early on.

Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, Palace, Liverpool to start. No pressure on that Palace game then...

He’s either got to build on how we finished playing away at the end of last season or use pre-season to come up with a new idea

Based on those early games not sure it'll matter! Although I presume he goes down a similar route to last season away early on.

Steve will be the first to say that our away form must improve this coming season. Personally I would rather play these tough away games early and get them out of the way.

Catch them before they get fully into their rhythm

Having been to pretty much every away game since promotion I thought the end of 2024 was an appropriate time to bump this thread.

This season travelling away has become a thing of absolute beauty. There are games that have entered the conversation for favourite ever away trips. (Liverpool particularly) but the manner of some of these games have been equally impressive.

The top 5 trips this season for me.
1st - Liverpool for obvious reasons, total carnage. Celebrating in Scouse ville afterwards too.

2nd Leicester- Although they are crap, the noise in the away end, their salty fans, the Steve Cooper pi$$ take, the ground shaking plus got hold of a spare for my 11 year old to experience it.

3rd - Everton- They were never in the game, we tore them apart at times and 2-0 flattered them. On it from 9.42 train so well oiled  cracking day. A great way to wrap up our visits to a proper old school ground. Very reminiscent of our 3-1 win in 77......

4th - ManU - Some would have this higher, but they are crap and those of us of a certain age have seen many great wins here. That said Atmosphere in away end was great and train home was more like a party.

5th- Brentford - Possibly the most professional away performance of the season against a freescoring (at home) team. Away end was rocking and the pub is class there.

Honourable mention for Chelsea nearly winning with 10 men.

I feel we've earned this after 2 seasons almost of being a bit crap on the road.

Hopefully there will be plenty more vying for entry to this list by the end of the season. Celebrating Europe or the League title would be as epic as the Waka Waka day at Palace....Cov 78 anyone?

Happy New Year.
