Would you not keep Aurier?
Reply
I would but his fitness record hasn't been great and this is a real issue across the squad. Consistency is key to success & we have really suffered from a lack of it in terms of squad fitness all season. We have barely (if at all) seen some of the squad - Niakhate, Biancone, Richards, Kouyate et al. For me, much as i like Aurier, is it worth the risk?

Red Dog, all the names you mention are contracted to Forest next season except Aurier and all would be top players in the Championship.

I think the gap between the top half of the Prem and the top of the Championship is higher than I personally realised, having actually seen it. Premier league is just so fast paced, in both movement and decision making, you can't be slow whereas in the Championship you can get away with it and in defence it evens seems to help to have experienced, calm defenders eg Cook.

You look at players like Pukki at Norwich as the classic example, best striker in the Championship yet completely ineffective in the Prem due to lack of pace (and support).

I also think teams that have done well after promotion have relied on a core of 6-7 at least from the promotion year. I really hope that is what we can do next year, have a settled, young team and then if we do go up, try and keep that stability.

Agreed. However my point is more around paying the wage of Aurier in comparison to that of another younger, less injury prone Championship ready player. I know the other players I mention are contracted for longer but we do not know if they have relegation clauses re wages / potential sales etc. Aurier will not be our player on 30/6 unless we offer a new contract.

I think we'd part ways, I think Neco will be the RB?RWB next year if in the Championship (and if not for someone else in there!). He's still only 21 and played an impressive amount of games so there's still time for him although he's not really shown he has the physical traits to be a RB in the Premier League. Either way in the championship there is just no reason to keep Aurier and I'm not sure he'd want to stay anyway.

Whilst the quality may be far lower in the Championship, the desire to fight for every loose ball, every aerial ball and get booted around generally is higher.

Our squad as it will be at the end of the season has plenty of the quality required in the legue below (I can see Taiwo scoring loads potentially too)  but I would not have any confidence in many of our signings having the right mentality to earn the right to show our quality.

If Yates and Felipe go (I make the assumption Jonno will get snapped up) who else would be in contract prepared to scrap it out out when required? Joe,  Scott, Cook, Willisms  Tofflo, Shelvey, Surridge, Wood, Taiwo.
Question marks over whether the rest will fancy it for me-if they're ever fit that is.

Zico, there are players in the current squad or not as the case maybe plus all the others out on loan. I am sure we could have a very strong set of players for next season even if a few where to be sold or decide they are better then Championship standard (some should look in the mirror on that point). The big question is if SC is still running the show will he be much more clinical, ruthless call it what you want with team selection and not selecting the same players regardless of form which has to a certain extent been his biggest downfall this season, injuries aside.

We could sell our first choice in every position and would still end up with a stronger first team than when Cooper took over, a few loans and selling a few starters will still see us in the playoffs at the minimum imo
