I would certainly hope regardless that if it comes to it we focus on getting at least 18th, just in case. Imagine if we gave up, finished 19th and then the deduction held.

Also, before anyone says, well it was a previous season or we don't deserve to stay up like that etc. They have quite clearly broken the rules and benefitted over multiple seasons, they'd have gone down last year (meaning a weaker team stayed up that we could've beaten). Plus this year they still signed Onana who would likely be one of our best players and have multiple players they shouldn't have been able to keep.

I feel like on principle I would love to see them down, although I do think they would find it easier to recover as there is still money there. Leicester will find it harder as the owners are broke post covid hence the collapse this year. Once you take out Maddison and Barnes their team looks pretty average.

Stupid that they can appeal, they have submitted 3 sets of accounts that break FFP rules. It's not like the PL is making up the figures, its their figures!

Rules should be simple. for every (x)% over = 1 pts deduction to be taken at (y) date and embargo of (z) windows

It's because of the Covid allowances they were given, makes the whole process more difficult. Plus some costs are allowable for FFP purposes and some of those are debatable. Basically they claimed a lot of their losses were due to covid but significantly more than anyone else in the league did by a very wide margin.

However, weirdly the Premier League initially accepted it and agreed to allow it as long as the followed agreed savings going forward, eg the Richarlison sale on the last day of June.

Leeds and Burnley then kicked up a fuss and appealed (all very similar to Derby situation) and then the league seemed to have changed their minds which does give Everton grounds to complain, similar to Derby. They f****d up badly not giving them the penalty last year when it was clear they should've done, weak management by the PL.

I think we likely would've failed it this year in the championship had we not have gone up or at least would've had to sell a few before end of June last year to get under it. I suspect we'll be right on the wire again, at least compared to the last few years we actually have loads of assets to sell. Think we've got around 40 odd players when you factor in loans/academy. 

I suspect the strategy will be take a chunky fee for Brennan to cover it and the rest should sort itself out. A second year in the championship would likely be the firesale.

Looking at next few matches elsewhere:

Leeds - Fulham, Leicester and Bournemouth (does get easier after that)

Everton - Palace. Newcastle, Leicester

Leicester - wolves, Leeds, Everton

Forest - Liverpool, Brighton, Brentford

Those teams have harder games after those but we might need adrift by that point.

Based on the above, feels like we need to get some points in these three games otherwise we'll be a bit adrift. I do think we can get something against Brghton and/or Brentford. Next weekend might hurt though
