On paper this looks a really exciting signing, A young but already experienced player from a strong team in a strong league. From reading a bit about him yesterday it seems he plays well in counterattacking teams which should suit us perfectly.

Hopefully he'll integrate well into a new team and country and I think the signing of Gustavo Scarpa could've been a masterstroke here. Danilo will have someone he already knows and has played with, and someone who speaks English well so will be able to help him communicate, and someone who already seems to have integrated brilliantly into the squad. That can only help Danlio to settle more quickly.

Stealing this from a comment on The Athletic article, quote from Tim Vickery:

"He was called up by Brazil in June for a tour they did of Japan and South Korea. I think that was the moment that he stepped up the level and, ‘wow, this is a bit more difficult than I thought’. He didn’t get on the field and he hasn’t quite been the same player since.

“There’s a fear at Palmeiras [that] if they don’t sell him now, his value is going to plummet. Palmeiras has been burned a couple of times recently with potential wonderkids they had offers for. They didn’t sell and a year later, the player is not worth nearly as much."

“And there’s a real feeling that if they don’t cash in on Danilo now, that his value might fall… It is fascinating that if they don’t sell him now, they think they won’t get anything like as much for him in future transfer windows.”

I think the fee is not excessive, if he struggles early on his value would likely be retained and he could easily be loaned out downwards. For me, the above quote just suggests we need to be patient and not expect him to come in and set the world alight.

It sounds like he needs a coach capable of managing his development effectively and helping him reach the next level. So he's come to the right place! The fact he hasn't played for a while due to it being the Brazilian offseason suggests he likely won't play loads to begin with, just be a sub for Mangala early on. That said that spot is up for grabs so if he showed he was good enough then definitely potential he could take it, or if there's an injury.

Well if it's true what I was told that Chelsea were seriously considering him as a long term replacement for Kante then that is good enough for me.

The proof though will be in the pudding and without wishing to state the obvious it's a bit too early to judge before he's even set foot on the pitch.

He is a 21 year old lad first time away from home in a cold foreign country where he doesnt know the language or culture and he has to fit in with new teammates, coaching staff and style of play. Then go and perform in the toughest league in the world.

Please dont expect too much too soon. Hopefully with some nurturing he can live up to his early potential and more.

Fair enough and I would have bloody done it for a fraction of what we will be paying him too.

Just fed up of our fanbase writing off players as shit after 2 games without looking at the bigger picture.

I expect him to be a bit part player to start with while he finds his feet and gels wit the team. From there who knows how he will turn out.
