I turned on the tv expecting to see an opening ceremony and some talk about a forthcoming football festival but instead had to sit through the BBC's lecture on why Qatar is a horrible place and how terrible it is to have a world cup there. If the bbc thinks its so terrible then they should have declined to broadcast it. They've absolutely killed the mood now for me. Lecturing about the plight of migrant workers whilst broadcasting from a stadium built by them.

Spot on. Qatari people have been so welcoming to everyone. We're having a great time here. Opening ceremony was great, match a bit Sunday league, but the nights out have been class. Stadium was impressive  though a bit weird driving into middle of desert and the catering was a disaster as there was no food available for fans for some reason. Lineker is a massive hypocrit.

We're all hypocrites to some degree if we watch it on TV, or present it, play in it, attend it live etc.

This virtue signalling is completely out of hand. Expecially when it's applied to my football. These people have no interest in the sport, they're there to spout their narrative, thats all. The football is a vehicle for them to do so. I'm aware there are issues in the country but the time to kick up the stink was 10 years ago. And players like Kane are getting caught up in all the politics. He's just there to be a sportsman playing football, not be an ambassador for the liberal ways of the west.

And I feel for the Iranian player who was asked about the troubles in his country yesterday. Asking those kinds of questions to a humble player can literally put his and his family's life at risk. Its pathetic.
