We do Voddie.
We're on 9 now and only have to beat 11

Thought I'd switch to this thread.
I wanted to ask, if we're allegedly underachieving, I wondered which teams people think we should be above? "Underachieving Shite" was used elsewhere (I'm sure this doesn't reflect the full range of views of the forum!)
Looking at our team compared to those around us, I'd say only Bournemouth really have a comparable squad, however they have Solanke and Moore which I think puts them above us. Southampton and Leeds, we're perhaps on par with or close to at least. The likes of Wolves, Villa etc have clearly got better squads than us at the moment. It is to our advantage they don't seem to be playing as well as they could.
Anyway, if you had to rate all the teams based on squads where would we rank? For me, 20th as it stands, this not a criticism, just an acceptance of the challenge we faced at the start of the season and still do. If we stay up I'd put this as a greater achievement for Cooper than the promotion!

I’m not saying we have better squads.
However if you look at the market value of the squads in the Prem then we should be able to compete on a level playing field with -
Bournemouth, Fulham, Leeds, Soton, Brentford
They have been together longer than us so we are at a disadvantage in that regard.
I think we will take it to the wire though

It doesn't work like that though Wassy it's not so black and white.
For example Newcastle are fourth, do they have the fourth best squad in the PL?
Fulham are seventh, do they have the seventh best squad in the PL?
Of course they are not but they have coaches who are getting a tune out of the squad that they have.
At the other end of the table we have Leicester who are third from bottom, do Leicester have the third worst squad in the league?
Of course they don't but their coach is not getting a tune out of them like our coach is not so far getting a tune out of us.

I get the point you are making Wassy and am largely sympathetic to your viewpoint. Thing is at what point do you stop looking at the squad based on what it has achieved in the past?
At some stage you have to say the squad is as good as its league position. At the start of last season you could have made a strong case for Brentford having the weakest squad. Did they overachieve? Were they better than they looked on paper? Whichever you have to say they now have the 11th strongest squad because thats where they are.
Likewise we have the weakest squad because that's how we are performing currently but a few wins on the bounce, the team has more PL ex and you dont say its the weakest anymore.

Ha, kind of the opposite to what I have just written!

Agreed the league table doesn't lie but what can lie is the reason behind the said current league position.
