Nottingham Forest - Aston Villa
#97
Positives
433 is the best formation for this team.
Point is better than a thrashing
Thought with a few more positive subs around 70 min we could have gone on and won that.
Defence looked pretty good

Negatives
Keeper is nowhere near England level. Long shots, distribution poor
Kouyate isn't fit enough to start
Johnson was a passenger

Our best 11 is this one from tonight. Build from there.

Excellent performance imo tonight. Ive been saying for a while now we need to stop the rot by getting behind the ball, staying compact and not conceding. Ok we got done by a decent long range effort but we were a bit unlucky with that. So all in all a gritty safety first performance. More of the same for Saturday.

I'm happy with the point. I don't care how it came it was just important to not lose that game.

On we to Wolves. STEVIE COOPER, STEVIE COOPER.

Thought we played ok.

Hendo’s kicking was shit.

Toff and Aurier did ok. Pleased for Cook and McKenna, probably the most solid they’ve looked all season.

Kouyate is a cracking player, glad that Cooper see’s it too and Yates looked much more mobile tonight. Still can’t really see what Freuler brings though.

MGW put in some hard yards and Dennis took his only real chance.

Neco was dreadful

Had we been able to defend leads we would be sixth.

Not sure about all the positivity just yet. Villa looked very very poor and still had a few chances. We struggled to create anything, chose the wrong options when countering and didn’t keep the ball at all. Thought Yates was good and MGW getting better, plus Toff and McKenna both played well. Hopefully we can build on this and start winning some games.

Dennis first half was a breath of fresh air. Someone showing for the ball, trying to do something, being a pest.

MGW was buzzing around too, he's going to be better in a more composed side. But, as others have said, Brennan is doing absolutely nothing. Its like we play with 10 men. He does none of the above. He cant control the ball, he can dribble past people, he get no goal attempts. There's nothing there. Why he is not capable of being dropped?

The positivity's obvious isnt it? We've lost 5 on the bounce and looked a million miles from where we need to be. Tonight the team went out with a game plan and for the first time this season they achieved (without any semblance of luck) what they needed to do and what they'd been working on all week.

Another positive was that when we conceded we dug in and kept our composure.

It might not have been champagne football but there was much to praise tonight.

I thought Yates Freuler did well. MGW will offer more of a a threat the more confident he becomes. Toff did well also. Johnson is steeling a living ATM, when he plays we are down to 10 men. Offers very little going forward and absolutely nothing in defence, his positioning was awful. Last season it was ok when he went missing, this season we can’t afford to carry anyone.
I do feel we miss Sambas distribution, so many times a quick ball out would’ve really put Villa under pressure.
Overall though really pleased with a point, it’s a start and something to build on

Was worried when I saw the team but much better hard working performance, at least you could see there was a game plan to keep it tight.
Positives
Thought Yates much better and Kouyate much improved too. Freuler better than before but expect much more from someone of his calibre. Dennis very bright and deserved his goal but dont think he is a natural lone front man. Defensively solid, Toff > Lodi

Negatives. Johnson, seriously needs dropping contributed next to nothing, couldn’t even be arsed to chase the ball on occasion.
Henderson poor too. How many long range goals has he conceded now? Slow to dive and beaten at the near post however good the shot was. Distribution poor as others have said.
We wont face many poorer teams than Villa at home.

It wasn’t pretty, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Felt a lot better driving the 2 and a half hours back than I did after last Monday night.

And that’s a positive.

Let’s get to 12 points as soon as we can do then see where we go from there.
