Not saying this is going to happen but just for discussion sake...

How would you feel if Steve stayed on and got more responsibility and became more of a manager instead of head coach and had control over transfers etc and Dane and the recruitment team were all dismissed.

I know Cooper's contract is in the bin but could a new one be drawn up that reflects his change in status?

Just for discussion would you be happy and take it?

I'm not sure after really wanting Neco and paying so much for MGW it may not be wise?

Exactly this. 

There’s lots moaning about Lingard (and for good reason) but both these chaps will cost the club significantly more over the duration of their contract.

Just assuming really with that Charnley fella being on the scene but it does seem to me Cooper is toast and will be shortly out the door

Possibly the worst option of all the managers linked so I really hope not.

Is it just me that is going to struggle to watch in the short term if Cooper is sacked? I just had such an emotional attachment to last year's team, admittedly only really got Brennan and McKenna now left even starting but it's going to be tough to get over this one. 

Maybe it's more of an issue with the industry rather than Forest specifically as we wouldn't be the only team to be considering a change in this scenario although it feels way too early. It's just going to be tough to take. I appreciate the funding that's been provided but in general I feel Steve bailed out the owners, not the other way round. Yet, what do you do, you can't exactly turn against the ownership, even if you disagree with their business practises and approach, they have invested a lot into the club including repeatedly covering excessive losses. Plus, it's not like you just get a change overnight and that could easily be to someone much worse. So therefore it makes sense to continue to be supportive but it feels hard to support a decision like this.

Therefore it just feels easier to just step back a bit if Steve goes. I'm probably talking shit and will still follow in exactly the same manner but I would feel embarrassed to be a fan again. Which is sad as it felt like we might finally be stepping away from being that embarrassing club that underachieved for 20 years, repeatedly sacking managers and making the same mistakes over and over again. I guess perhaps we are still that team, we just got lucky for half a year.

Steve Cooper is to stay as Nottingham Forest’s head coach, with Filippo Giraldi to join as the new sporting director, following boardroom talks on Wednesday.

Cooper will be given more time to spark Forest’s season into life and is poised to take charge of the Premier League game against Aston Villa on Monday night.

Evangelos Marinakis, the club’s owner, held detailed talks with other high-level board members this afternoon and it was concluded that Cooper will remain in his post for now.

Forest were seriously considering Cooper’s future after the 4-0 defeat at Leicester on Monday night, which was the fifth in a row and left them bottom of the table.

Rafael Benítez, the former Liverpool and Newcastle manager, had emerged as a potential replacement for Cooper, who has been in charge for just over 12 months.

Yet it was unanimously decided that Cooper will earn a stay of execution, with Marinakis insisting that Cooper deserves patience to be shown.

Cooper delivered Forest back to the Premier League after a 23-year absence in May and, crucially, has retained backing from the majority of the supporters.

Forest are still prepared to undertake drastic action behind the scenes, with chief executive Dane Murphy and the recruitment team in the firing line.

In another development, Watford’s former technical director Filippo Giraldi is in negotiations over taking a similar role at Forest.

Giraldi was a key figure at Watford under owner Gino Pozzo but departed the club shortly after their relegation in the 2019/20 campaign.

He has vast experience of the Premier League and will be appointed by Forest as Marinakis looks to improve the infrastructure and evaluate the sporting side of the business.

Giraldi was also responsible for shrewd signings at Watford including Richarlison, Abdoulaye Doucouré, Joao Pedro and Étienne Capoue.

Murphy, the former Barnsley chief executive, is expected to leave this month with his position believed to have been under threat for some time.

It is understood there is frustration at the City Ground over suggestions that Murphy was pivotal in last year’s appointment of Cooper, who inherited a team bottom of the Championship and then steered them to promotion.

Lee Charnley, the former Newcastle managing director, is in line to replace Murphy.

George Syrianos, the head of recruitment, and head of scouting Andy Scott are also facing uncertain futures following Forest’s £150 million spend, where 22 new players arrived.

I hope we don't see any more mention of Marinakis being a hire and fire owner. If he has taken on board advice and decided to stick with Cooper after the state of our season so far then he needs to be treated with a huge amount of respect.

And he did the same with Lamouchi and Hughton remember, both of whom were given time to sort their problems out too.
