The challenge will be to keep all them happy- don't think we signed lingard to sit on the bench. In fact I reckon the three we started with up front against spurs will be our first choice.

I agree with the starting XI, in the absence of Niakhate I would assume Boly will instantly step in rather than Cook or Kouyate. CM, Cooper needs to establish his top two choices quickly, on paper you'd think it would end up being Freuler and Mangala, although Yates does offer that option of getting into the penalty area which we need particularly without an out and out striker. So maybe if Taiwo or Dennis is playing Yates comes out for Freuler? Up top, Cooper clearly bought MGW and Lingard with the intention of playing them so you've got to assume that this was always his intended front 3, with Taiwo available to offer a more direct threat. Therefore I think this three will be given ample opportunity of the next 5-6 games to prove them can score enough goals. For me, MGW has to show he can play a similar role to the one that Brennan has played within this formation, which is likely more of a forward than he has done previously. If he can't then one of him or Lingard has to drop out or Brennan will need to play as a loan forward, which is again a position he hasn't played regularly but could be capable of. Perhaps it's a role he could grow into as he gets older and stronger. Either way, you've got to assume the above has been planned by Cooper and we'll see whether what seems like a gamble from the outside turns out to be another masterstroke. I'm excited for tomorrow, hoping for similar to Spurs except no Kane and more Forest goals!

Although I'm uncomfortable with Taiwo as I think his touch is so bad, he does at least has that ability to get into good positions. Would be fine with Surridge too. Can Dennis play CF in this formation?

The problem with so many signings is that we will come up with an almost infinite number of permutations between us as to who we think is best.
You state yourself in another thread that some players attain greater reputation by not playing. I reckon you add Niakhate to that one, he may well turn out to be good but he was like a rabbit in the headlights vs Newcastle. Before last night I was screaming for Freuler myself simply in the strength of his CV. I genuinely thought we had Harry Arter back he was that bad. Fine give players time and we shouldn’t write off anyone after 60 minutes but good grief that was poor from him. Then there is Bade, Aurier Biancone, Richards who havent got on the field yet. Kouyate, Dennis, Boly, Mangala have all barely played. How much opportunity will some of these players ever get? How on earth are we meant to come up with our best 11 when we haven’t seen them. How on earth is Cooper meant to know his best 11? How much can we afford to rotate and experiment to find the right combination? This is all why I agree with those who say we should have tried harder to keep the nucleus of last years team and bring back some of those who were on loan.

I argued a while back that too much change made too quickly is bound to confuse and disorientate those involved. This is where we are now. Last year's team was been all but dessimated to be replaced by a rag tag bunch many of whom we bought because their club's were happy to let them go. The bond between a team's players is at least as important as their individual talent. BC knew this and developed a force that was the best in Europe. We don't know whether Coops wanted it done this way or that he was passive. Last night we were again disjointed and weak showing form that will take us down.

Yeah completely agree, I guess part of why I was suggesting it is we kind of need to pick a best 11 and stick with it even if it ends up being not the best at least they'll be consistent. As opposed to shouting for whichever player hasn't played for a few games (or at all in Dennis case)

I think it’s becoming blatantly obvious that Cooper wasn’t bursting a gut to sign Dennis.
MGW is playing every minute straight from signing for us, Dennis is getting scraps despite getting 10 goals and 6 assists in a relegated side. For me to give us the best chance of scoring the required goals (40) whilst providing some control in midfield I would switch to a 4-3-3 (double pivot) to enable the full backs to still play high. This certainly feels more secure in midfield. 4231 would allow Lingard to start though. On paper he's still our highest rated attacker. I'd prefer that I think. However, I think with 433 you could play Dennis centrally or Brennan, a big CF is less essential. You're right though and I'm guessing the Dennis situation is likely what has caused the potential underlying issues.
