There is nothing wrong with any of those players individually. As a collective though you have a bunch of ageing journeymen, all on high wages, none good enough for PL, none can ever be sold on for a profit and as we have found out all of them simply dont want it enough.

A team, or squad, is all about getting the right balance & we haven't got it, you're right when you say that one or two of Forest's dads army could do a job for us, under the right circumstances, the problem is we have to many, & in some cases the wrong ones.

You have to be very careful with older players, & do your homework on them, that's why I said, with regards the talk of a new contract for Murray that I personally wouldn't offer him one, but that I would trust Hughton's judgement on it, because he's done his homework on the player, he knows the player, he will know if he can go one more year, & I don't, which is why I couldn't make the call & o wouldn't offer the contract.

Take Arter, did we do our homework on him?

I mean he was on fire in 14/15, we all remember that, no doubting he was a good player on top of his game at the time, but he's been on a bit of a downward spiral ever since, when he got to the premier league he was in & out the side for the first couple of seasons (in his defence partly due to niggle & injuries) & by the end of 17/18 he was increasingly looking like a fringe player whose days were numbered, that was followed by a relatively unsuccessful loan to Cardiff, & though he got promoted out of this division, while on loan at Fulham last season he was hardly their star player & now he looks fairly surplus here, already.

A player we've seen can play, albeit a long time ago, but someone who there has been a lot of red flags for in recent years, did we check them out properly?

This is the sort of difference that I hope Hughton (& Brazil) will make, I hope, instead of just collecting names, & recommendations, they'll do their homework, check a players work ethic, his habits, his personality, his mood, hi state of mind, how he'll gel with the others, I mean I don't know about you, but aren't you sick of waiting for our players to gel?

We have rarely played as a team in the last half a dozens year, we've been primarily a collection of individuals. This summer I hope we address that, & start getting both the personnel & the balance right.

Not wishing to take away from the points you make Knocker - but how objective are these ratings?

If we compare GCSE grades for instance - I would argue that to compare one year with the next is like comparing apples with pears.

Im always a bit suspicious of these stats, they dont tell you everything and tends to favour those who have played a handful of games. Apparently Kevin Gomis was 6.95 in his 1 appearance.

General trends are useful though and interesting to note how low all of our strikers are. In current squad Grabban is rated 22nd and Taylor 26th. Surprisingly Grabban hasnt rated above 7 or appeared in our top 10 performers any season.

100% objective

WhoScored.com Ratings are considered to be the most accurate, respected and well-known performance indicators in the world of football. Their ratings are currently used among media giants, bookmakers and football clubs.

WhoScored.com Ratings are based on a unique, comprehensive statistical algorithm, calculated live during the game. There are over 200 raw statistics included in the calculation of a player'’s/team’'s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game. Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.

The scoring system for the ratings is out of 10, starting from 6.0, with 10 being the highest score. The ratings are updated live every 30 seconds during the game & the data providers Opta will update and adjust statistics where necessary 5 minutes after the final whistle.

It is literally 100% stat based & has nothing to do with any individuals subjective opinion.

That depends on whether they were good performances or bad ones, while a player with a single good performance will obviously have a good rating, a player with a single bad performance will have a bad one, so it doesn't really favor or disfavor the single appearance player, besides, how many players play just a handful of games?

You give an example, but in that scenario you look at his individual file:

& that shows you that one game was atypical, so the site remains accurate, even for a player who might only play a handful of times for us & as for not telling everything, I think over 200 raw statistics is about as close to "everything" as most of us are going to get, I mean that gives you not only goals, & assists, but shots per game, pass accuracy, number of passes, type of passes, tackles, interceptions, fouls, off-sides, clearances, dribbles, blocks, own goals, fouls, fouls against you, key passes, how often you're disposed, how many unforced errors you commit, crosses, long balls, through balls, etc., etc.,

You won't get a more comprehensive picture.

I'd be confident on promotion if circumstance & opportunity affords him about £30m & the next two full seasons & that's for a certainty, I wouldn't write off his chances on a tighter budget, or a different timescale.
