Next Seasons 25

Next season there's a 25 man squad limit again, & we start preseason with the following:

GK -

Samba
Smith

DF -

Mbe Soh
Worrall
McKenna
Figueiredo
Blackett
Ioannou
Bong
Jenkinson
Lawrence-Gabriel

MF -

Colback
Bachirou
Arter
Yates
Carvalho
Lolley
Cafu
Muguane

ST -

Grabban
Da Costa
Taylor

Academy (exempt from the 25 rule) -

Johnson
Mighten
Swan

That's 22 of a 25, assuming all stayed & were included, which is unlikely. Almeira have an option on Carvalho & Mouscron have an option on Da Costa & with no disrespect intended towards Ioannou, or Guerrero, if they weren't considered good enough this season I suspect they won't be considered for next season either & there's probably a couple more you could consider surplus, alongside others who might be better suited with a loan out to further their development, so a lot of the 22 is probably redundant.

I've used fairly simple groupings above because I'm not 100% convinced we'll be 4-2-3-1 next season, or certainly not at least every game, so that throws curve-ball into the equation too, such as to #10 or not to #10.

I know it would be crazy to build your team around 19 year old, but to use him as an example, for me Jonnson's been at his best for Lincoln when he's been wide in a front 3 in a 4-3-3 & Hughton may want to explore that, or a front 2, or... who knows, & that effects what players you want in the squad & in what volume.

Anyway, summer is fast approaching, the Police have already started moving people on from the Arboretum, the smell of Cannabis can be smelt wafting on the Nottingham breeze, entwined with the smell of chips & curry sauce, & as you've decided your bean ratios for your transfer budgets (see the transfers thread if you want an explanation of the bean budgets), so what formation are you looking at, & what sort of 25 are you looking to start next season with?

Where is Cafu? Plus why is Guerrero on the list, he's been sold.

A good starter for 10 Knocker.

When you see our squad ( excluding loanees ) in black & white you realise what a tough job Hughton will have in making us strong enough to get anywhere near next seasons top 6. Of that 25 you can immediately strike out at least 10 players who are simply not good enough.

Smith isn’t good enough. We need a better back up keeper.

Need a new right back too, unless Gabriel has vastly improved.

A lot of work to be done but just getting Garner and Krovinovic back along with Jonno in the team changes the picture a lot.

Christie is slowly winning me over if we get him on a free and reduced wage

He's definitely upped his game Tugger that's for sure.

The jury is still out for me.

Good question, I'm guessing he just slipped my late night memory.

That's what inspired me to make the thread, when I started looking at next season it became obvious that massive restructuring was needed & fans had to be prepared for it this summer.

I imagine the defense will remain fairly consistent, but going forward I'd expect a completely unrecognizable team.

I wouldn't be surprised to see matches next season where we have an almost completely new & unknown (to us at this moment) front 3 or 4.

We need changes & I suspect Hughton will want those changes to involve bringing his players in.

This bit is key to it. Will Hughton still be here? Will the owners dispense with him if we get a poor run of results between now and May. Or even worse if we get off to a bad start to next season as we did this and we have yet another new manager without his own squad to work with.
Assuming neither of those scenarios happen will CH be allowed his to bring his own choice? Change is needed behind the scenes as much as anything.

I will try to calm your fears to the best of my knowledge SM.

Changes behind the scenes have been made. We now know that CH and GB are in charge of signings. Anigo has gone and Modesto is now mainly scouting younger players.

I believe we will do ok in our remaining games and CH will keep his job revamp the squad in the summer and start next season strongly.
