True.  To be fair he hadn't played for a year coming off the back of a bad injury.

He was in his way back to his old self before that cynical challenge from behind did for him.

It torpedoed Sabri.  Forest.  And we're still slowly recovering from that under Hughton.

Hughton has upp d the volume of training.

And in the last 7 game unbeaten run it's getting there.

If you're not fit it doesn't matter how good you are.

Personally I think the transfer input from the none-managerial side of thing has been utterly dire for years.

From a ton of random punts, to far too many players being purchased in any 1 window, to no grasp of the players fitness etc. I think Anigo, Modesto, Vrentroz, Memdez etc. have all played a huge part in creating a Fawaz-esq situation, where we now face relegation & a have a very restricted budget due to a bloated squad and heavy wage bill.

Despite certain noteable changes during the last window, we still didn't cover very basic ground, like making sure players were fit (signing Colback after 18 months not playing? FFS)

Hughton seems to be having more of a say in things now thankfully, Brazil's input is welcome too (although le's not forget Zach Clough) but the damage done has been huge, and the sooner the Greeks realize that their side of things should fully concentrate on none-footballing aspects of the club, and leave all that to the manager to look after, the better.

I'd be surprised if any of our scouts have actually watched half the players we've signed actually play. Bong, Colback & Freeman wouldn't have made it here if they had. Mir, Muric, Bonatini, Dias.... the list is an almost endless fountain of dross.

In the case of Colback I'm pretty sure they were aware he hadn't played for 18 months. I would imagine that was factored into his contract which is likely to be heavily appearance weighted.

Also, he played for the first month and a half before getting injured. Was always a risk hence why they signed other CMs too. Worth a gamble for me and hopefully he still offers some value later in the season.

Colback isnt a has-been or useless but he is a very limited player IMO and it is always going to take some time for any player who hasnt played competitive football in 18 months to get up to speed.
That’s something we need to bare in mind when we are looking at loans too, in our situation we need someone who can make an impact now, it doesn’t matter if they are 22 or 42 we need players who are match fit. For that reason Krovinovic could be an excellent loan.

Agreed, perhaps our biggest mistake in the window was not factoring in the short turnover and lack of pre-season into our signings.

Although again Arter & Christie played plenty for example last season. Freeman & Colback worth the gamble and we had other options. Just maybe the combination of that and the immediate pressure on Sabri was hard to overcome early on.

Colback just needs to up his game, since his return he hasn't really put in real shift, so CH needs to get him to put in some real effort on the pitch and get him to show us all what he is made off,  too many have had a cushy ride and unfortunately he is one of them, the same can be said of a good few of them.
