What Is The Clubs Transfer Strategy

Can those who were lauding our transfer policy this summer explain to me how we have managed to end up with such a slow squad? If there actually was a plan then surely you assess the squad and look to add to qualities we are lacking?
There wasnt that much pace last season, we relied on both full backs, we desperately wanted a bit of additional speed from forward players especially since our style was to play on the break. One of those full backs has departed and we recruited a load of pensioners, It was glaringly obvious to me that we were deficient. It showed last night, we poured numbers forward but it was just so pedestrian we never stretched the opposition defence.
Please dont tell me Mighten is the answer, Yet again its the bloody recruitment.

The biggest mistake in the last 6 months, was sticking with Sabri through the summer, giving him the players he asked for, and then sacking him.

He should have gone straight after the Stoke game.

I’m sure we would have had a very different squad, had Hughton come in with the close season to shape the squad.

I disagree, I think we need to stick with the right manager and although Sabri bottled it in my opinion I think we should have recruited properly and let him go again.

In essence he started this season with a weaker starting eleven than he finished the last, which is reality is shameful.

I think Sabri’s head had gone.
I’m still scratching my head trying to understand his rationale at bringing the players back so late.
For me this is a contributory factor into our shocking start.

Given that Gurerro was forced on Sab, and that this window we've operated in pretty much the same way as every window since Ventroz arrived, I'll be utterly amazed if Sabri had a significant say in 90% of those transfers.

We were always going to his this brick wall whilst-ever the top brass at the club employed such a scatter-gun manor. Warbs was resistant to it, got hoofed, and ever since most windows have seen dross piled into the side, with people like AK & MON managing to sneak a few good signings in there like Grabban & Ameobi.

I just saw a quote that Yates and Mighten are the only midfielders or attackers under 27 years of age. I guess Swan too now he’s been added, but it does highlight that it seems a bit ‘experience’ heavy.

It is a mess. A mess where many need to take some blame.

Its a mess and we may suffer the financial fall out of last summers spending for some years. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, we have the likes of Mighten, Johnson, Swan, Mcguane and Konate coming through to go with McKenna, Yates, Mbe Soh. There is the spine of a decent young team there if we can hang on to them and shed some of the expensive dead wood.

Agreed. I suppose they wanted attacking total football their first season in the PL? He played safety first and it kept them in the top division. They are reaping the benefits now.

Sport is meant to be entertaining. Never buy that crap about it doesn't have to be. I'd be interested to see what the attendances would be like if we were allowed in right now. Then come back and tell me football should not be entertaining.
