Good riddance. An arrogant young player who spends too much time diving and is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is. I notice the Blackburn fans are already commenting that he spends much of his time falling on the floor.

I can’t believe the reaction to brereton leaving. He’s 19 and basically been told he’s third/fourth choice and not making squads. Wouldn’t you want to leave for first team football. That’s not ungrateful at all, it’s not like we weren’t compensated. I really don’t get the negativity surrounding this. He’s taken a potential pay cut as he wasn’t going to get a game here. Plenty of players in top academies should be doing the same rather than watching their careers pass them by to make a few quid as a 20 yr old. Good on the lad, hope he does well.

I must admit I have little sympathy for the occasional 23 or 24 year old you find lingering around some bigger academies, because they'd rather be a small fish, in a big pond, with a big wage, than take a pay cut, drop a division & use their time on the pitch to prove their worth & get back to where they want to be.

It shows a lack of effort & ambition, to me, & they are essential traits in this game.

If a player backs his talent all he needs is game time, it doesn't matter which division it's in, you let your football do the talking & if your footballs good enough people'll see it & you'll rise to the top.

The England manager should take seriously the talents of young players who are getting game time in the Championship. That might change a few attitudes.

Southgate has said he might have to do that if English players continue to get such a small amount of game time in the Premier League. Saying it and doing it are two different things though.

Hi Wassy, I rated your comment and totally agree.  Ideally a stronger club maybe a league below with maybe even more of a pay cut and enjoy playing, winning and scoring.  But then going to Blackburn isn't the easiest option and shows he is prepared to work.  The accusation he stormed out of training here, some say this is bad behavior, imo it is a player who wants to fight for his place and could only use the weapons at his disposal to make it clear he wanted to play and ideally be much higher up the pecking order here.  Basically if we had signed him from someone else, like someone else said, he (young, international, hungry, ability) is exactly the sort of player profile I would of liked us to be signing.

just a thought, probably totally wrong, but maybe a striker/winger is surrounded by big blokes and no red shirt ahead or within 30 yards and does whatever he can to try and get something or some advantage from a situation due to circumstances.  The bottom line for me is, I don't view BB as a cheat, I think if there are options and a chance to keep a good move going he will usually want to keep momentum, maybe untrue, I don't know, but I do think we let a very good, maybe a year off full impact, leaving, we will see.  After 12 yellows on Saturday I'm thinking cheating is a problem generally, potentially we are bigger cheats now, in fact according to the fair play league we are the biggest bunch of cheats at the moment.

At Burton last season ( purely an example ) Brereton was a disgrace.

It always surprised me that his diving wasn’t eradicated by the coaches at the Academy.

Basically if we had signed him from someone else, like someone else said, he (young, international, hungry, ability) is exactly the sort of player profile I would of liked us to be signing.

I do think our Portuguese recruits would be better served by a young, hungry & pacey #9, with plenty of movement.

But he didn’t learn!

That's down to management, as Clough used to say you should punish the players but it's the managers who are ultimately responsible because they're the ones who give the instructions. The teams moral heartbeat is set by the manager from day one, in the first training session. You fall inline from there.
