Those who are not ill or injured probably all in contention at present!
After we win on pens tonight after a famous 3-0 the best XI may be reconsidered........if Carlsberg did 2nd legs..

I think at this point the best XI minus injuries is probably fairly clear aside from keeper perhaps:
Navas, Aurier, Boly. Felipe, Lodi, Yates, Shelvey, Freuler, MGW, Johnson, Awoniyi. However, keeping in mind we've not got Taiwo for a while yet, what's our best team? Do we carry on playing 4231 as we have done in recent weeks to accommodate Wood/Surridge. Or go back to the wide forwards and start Dennis? Or push MGW or Brennan up front? I dont want to alarm anyone but I'm leaning towards starting Dennis and going back to the 433 with wide forwards until Taiwo is back!

I know many will not agree with this but if Dennis could just improve his decision making I honestly think that there is a decent player in there.
Panic on the streets of Croydon, Derby, Sheffield, Leicestershire.

Wood does not suit our system at all . Danilo started RCM last game bit os left footed and struggled , mangala played on the left so we need to play him LCM (where he shone against man u ) with scarpa LF and lodi LB then i think will see the best of all 3 . Shelvey is certain starter as DLP and one of yates/Frueler RCM . Filipe and Niakhate will be 1st choice CB . Serge and Williams 50/50 depending on who we are playing.

Shelvey taking the ball off the centeal defenders and playing quality balls forward reminded me the way Watson was played under Sabri. Having the ability to play out from the back is hugely important in this league and is why Cook amd McKenna have looked short this season. Worrall can play to certain degree but he's still not the best and if there's nothing on will hump it long where we inevitably then lose possession. Sheĺvey can transform this side if he perfoms like he did yesterday for us every week. He can also stick the ball on Wood's head too from crosses, hopefully.

If Shelvey is playing as the holding midfielder like Watson did, how is he going to be putting in crosses in for Wood. He might be good but can’t play in two positions at once. Wood would need service from a wide player good at crossing. That is definitely not what we do.

Shelvey put one ball across the box to Dennis who should have done better. It was from a deep position and Wood wasn’t on the pitch at the time. If we are hoping zShelvey is going to put crosses in the box for Wood to get on the end of, then we really are wishful thinking. At Burnley he had Dwight McNeil pitting decent crosses in but he was playing out wide and advanced up the pitch compared to Shelvey. I will be surprised if Wood starts against City.

My point is he is capable of chucking in a decent cross. And we now have a player who can apparently score from a decent cross. |
